Hey guys,

I just had a question about the Ferret Nation cage I just picked up last Tuesday from Craigslist. I am really enjoying the cage, but am wondering how it will work when I have to occasionally travel with my Chinchilla. I live about six hours from my family and will probably return home for about a month in december and have concerns about fitting the cage in my Wrangler. Is it possible to separate the top and bottom portions of the cage and use just the top or just the bottom as a temporary, smaller cage? I am also about to go out of town and am having someone chin sit, and thought that if the cages could come apart, taking half of the cage over to the friends house, rather than all of it, might seem less overwhelming. I appreciate any advice of information you can give! Thank you in advance!

It's really not a travel friendly cage at all. You can separate the top from the bottom, and it makes it somewhat more manageable. My FN's are getting pretty old and many of the screws got really tight and were stripped from the various times I had taken the cages apart. I don't think they'd survive another dis-mantling...not to mention it's just a huge pain in the butt! I just bought smaller, lighter, and easier to assemble temporary cages for when I have to bring my chins somewhere or for emergencies. They are fold-able and I don't have to recruit two guys to help me haul them :))

I agree, a smaller cage decked out with fun stuff works well for a travel cage. Quality cages sells small cages that collapse for travel.
