Quality Cage

I guess my chin really hates her not-so-big cage because she refuses going back in when she accidentally comes out when I'm fixing her stuff. I've almost decided to buy this one from qualitycage.com: http://qualitycage.com/index.php?ma...ducts_id=618:39069fc1a091d8f2105417526912464f. But I also see a lot of you guys love the ferret nation. Is the quality cage alright? Any problem/bad things abt the cage?

I have 3 cages and they're all quality cage chinchilla mansions (or whichever ones have the two doors). I have no problems with them. I bought a lot of wood ledges for them as well since I don't use hammocks. I do have fleece liners and tubes though. )

I personally love the QC's. I have three of them and I think they're great! Granted, they're not as visually appealing as the FN's, but I have the cages in the basement, not my living room, so I'm not so picky about how exactly it looks.

The only "bad" thing I would say about the cage... one of the three I have is a mansion. I've heard about people getting the mansion with 2 doors (it normally comes with one, you'd have to ask and pay more to get it with two...)... I would recommend 2 doors. My cages are all on tables, granted, but when I reach into the door of the QC mansion, once the chins get on some of the higher shelves, there is no getting them down (except on their own terms). Two doors would have really helped this problem for me. But other than that, I think they're great! I love the ease of attaching things to the cage and the chins seem to love them as well.

I have the Townhouse (I only have 1 chin) and it works fine. I also have their ChinSpin and a travel cage. If anything, I think their travel/emergency cages are pretty nice since they are collapsible (easy for storage). Since I seem to move quite a bit, QC's major point for me is that all their cages are collapsible.

The QC was shakey. I had a townhome, and 5 shelves in it. Even with all the shelves installed the cage shook like crazy when the chin would run on her wheel. I prefer the doors to open all the way (like a FN) that way you can get in the cage and clean really well. Plus, honestly, the FN just looks better, especially in an area like a living room. Also, with a FN you have the option to turn the FN142 into two cages. With the QC you have to add an additional cage.

That looks like a nice sized cage, and I'm sure it's good quality, but I have Ferret Nations and really love them because they're very sturdy, and I love how the doors open up and you have access to the whole cage, rather than sticking your arm in and trying to reach your chinchilla. You can also divide them into 2 cages if you ever need to. They're also on wheels, so you can move them easily. I had 2 different cages before I got my FNs and I wish I would have just spent the money on the FN in the first place!

I have FN's and love them! I am chin sitting for someone and they have a Quality Cage and BOY does that thing make a lot of noise when they run on their chin spin!

I have 5 QC cages. One is the mansion and the rest are all townhomes. since I breed, all of them have the kit proof wire. That is something I could not get in a FN. I love my QCs, they are stackable, so my 5 cages are in two towers. I have never had any problems with my QC cages or my chin spin. I have a little trouble reaching the shelf that is in the front, near the top, but I can still mange it. Mine has the single door. I hear the version with two doors can help if that is a problem for you. My cages have never been noisy, even with a chin going full bore in their wheel. My mansion has the stand so it can be moved. The other stack has a board with casters under it, so it, too, can be moved.

In terms of the space to jump, will QC be better because a chin can jump directly from the bottom to the top (not sure if they will do that, but at least QC allows that?) but the FN is split into two levels? Or do they not jump that high anyway?

Also, my chin is only 4 months old. Is the spacing of the bars of FN okay for her?

You can take the center out of the FN. As for jumping that high though they rarely, if ever, just from the bottom straight to the top in their cage. As for the bar spacing, 1in. is fine for a 4 month old chinchilla.

I've used both the QC and FN. I have switched everyone to FN's if that gives you any idea of which cage works better. I have 5 - 3 story FNs and 1 - 2 story FN in use right now. FNs are sturdier, easier to clean and a lot of fun for chins. For $203.95 you can get a FN 142 from Amazon. Or for $122.74 a FN 141 . Even the FN141 will give her much more room and entertainment than the cage you currently have. I have some pairs in a single level and they have plenty of room for a shelf, ledges, hammock, house or houses and wheel.

Oh I didn't know the center could be taken out!! Hm...both QC and FN look good. I guess I'll go with FN if it's easier to clean. Plus, I might be able to pick one up right away in petco or petsmart. Thanks for everyone's comment~~

FN stands for Ferret Nation cages (more particularily the FN 142 model)

QC stands for Quality Cages

These are the two major brands that most people use for chinchilla cages. However there are many more brands out there though.

I have the QC Mansion with the 2 doors. The bottom pan slides out which makes it super easy to clean.

The only draw back is that the doors are a little too narrow. Sometimes I have trouble reaching in the cage because my shoulders barely fit through. I think the FN has 2 big doors in front that completely swing open?

i have to agree with the loudness of the cage when rutherford runs on his exercise wheel. i have a quality cage company townhouse, and after a while, the cage sort of loses its shape when you screw on the shelves too tightly? the shelves no longer fit perfectly, and it's really annoying. i may think about changing his cage to a FN142 if i have more money...

I think the FN can't be beat for size, price, and ease of cleaning, BUT if you are not skilled with wood (for making your own shelves) the easier way to go is with the Quality Cage Mansion.
