Talia was walking around squeaking a lot today, enough to make me worry. I picked her up to look her over and she has some discharge. Other than the squeaking she's acting normally. How do you tell the difference between being in heat and discharge from infection?

P.s The squeaking I'm referring to is like a hmm sound. I've heard it often from my girls. Talia does it everytime she's in trouble and sent back to the cage. I've also heard them make it when they're interested in something. Its just concerning how much she is doing it.
Thank you.

I have only had a few girls, but when I came across discharge I would smell it, infection usually stinks bad.

If you are lucky (in the sense that a closed pyo usually results in death) enough to see an open pyo, then it usually smells and the discharge can be discolored. They also go downhill really fast. When my chins are in heat, they usually have a white discharge.

If she is in heat then the discharge will be clear with no smell to it. Any color or odor, I would suggest a vet asap

thank you for the replies!

I watched her all night and she wasn't really cleaning her privates or acting strangely. It was a clear/white discharge. I just tried smelling her, but I don't see any discharge, I didn't notice a smell. Last night I pushed on her tummy and no discharge came out. I know that's one of the signs of pyo.

Pushing on the belly really into a good way to determine if she does or doesn't have a pyo. They can stop draining at any point and have a closed pyo which won't have any discharge
