HI all. I have been trying to find pure standard chins. The problems I am having are starting to irratate me.

I know because of my location I will probley have to have them shipped or railroaded up. Here are my questions:

1.) who would be some of the best breeders to go to to find true Pure Standard chins?

2.) Do any of them ship?

3.) Are any of them in the Pacific Northwest.

I keep getting different answers on what constitues a PURE Standard. SOme say 3 generations, some say 5 generations, some say more. WHat are your opinions?

Thank you to those who share this info and opinions.

Shoots and Bowens both ship, and both have pure standards.

Lots of people have them, just not a lot of people will mess with shipping.

Interesting question.. I am curious to see what others say. I would probably go with a breeder whose focus is mainly standards. Shoots I know does only standards, black velvet , some beige and moasic.

With where I am they are not that hard to find. To me a pure standard is nothing but standard in the pedigree as far back as they know.

I got most of my pure standards from Whitewoods here in PA, but they've since retired. My others have come from Longenecker or Ryersons.

Personally, even as a small breeder I have many standard x standard pairrings all being "pure standard"

Have you tried Ronda in Oregon? She got some lovely standards from Bob and Jack and Claude, and I KNOW for fact they bred pure standards(have my own from them!). You could also try others who have Blue Vale or RNL or Caprona lines in Wa. I know there is some around with standards from those breeders in Washington.

I breed my own pure standards too from those lines and PVC lines, as well, but I know I can't ship closer to you than Seatac, and I have zip available right now. They sell as fast as they are born around here it seems, if I am not actually keeping them for myself that is. ;)

I would definitely go with Shoots or Bowens. In the last year I have purchased standards from both of them. The Shoots chins I had shipped. I drove to California to pick up the standards from Bowens. Gorgeous animals. So I'd say for standards start at the top. Both Gary and Ralph are courteous and professional, so don't hesitate to call them.

Wow, you're close to a goldmine of nice animals! I'm far more likely to have to ship/RR than you.

Bruce Kenworthy is right on the other side of the border, and Claude and Lorna are up there too.

Ronda has stuff from her own lines as well as Shoots, Bowen, Humphries, CLP, Kenworthy, PSK and Furball. You'll have to ask her about how pure they are - to be honest a nice standard is a nice standard regardless.

Linda Clark (Seattle) has some spectacular lines as well.

ARF (Alison) has a very nice standard line at the moment that I'd consider pure, I'd take anything out of it!

You going to the show? All the people I listed are less than 6 hours from you. :))

Claude & Lorna, as well as Bruce have all retired fro breeding, Tara. That is why I mentioned Ronda.

I know she isn't too far from Sheri and she has chins from those breeders in her herd. I do know she said she was planning to breed pure standards of her own, a couple years ago at a pelt sale, we both attended.

I completely forgot about Linda or Allison, but I'd suggest them too! Linda has wonderful animals.

We went to the Ryerson this weekend and they got some amazing standards, big ones. I'M actually impressed I didn't pack my carrier with chins! And they do ship.

West Coast MCBA 2009 show will be held on April 24th and 25th at 5130 164th Avenue SE, Bellevue, WA 98006. Contact Sue at [email protected] or Claire at [email protected] if you have any questions or need directions.
I don't know how far this would be for you to attend. I'm sure there will be some good standards for sale there. At the very least you would meet some of the breeders and see their animals. I would rather see an animal before buying. We have never bought breeding stock site unseen.

In my opinion, a Pure Standard is one that has standard parents as far back as you can tell. At least 3 generations. I obtained my first Pure standards from Shoots and Blue Vale. I breed Pure Standards as well as standard to standard pairings. The Pure standards tend to stay here. Although I sometimes will sell them.

I would have to agree with RCR. I had Shoots chins shipped to me they are just gorgeous. Bowen (Gary and Margot) their ranch is only about 1 1/2 hrs away from me they are beautiful too.

Furball does not have any chins any more since last year.

Thank you to all for your replies. I am hopeing to be at the show. Was there last year.

That seems to be what I am seeing from most in this area that have pure standards is they don't let them go. LOL

Well at least I have a starting point.

Claire if you get any PS to sell let me know please. I only need 2 good ones. LOL

Will do. Male or female?

I have a couple pairs that can now produce pure standards. I was lucky enough to get a Furball standard from Ronda last time I was there. Just paired her up with Guido my PS from Silvermoon. If it's a female it's staying here, but I could possibly part with an extra male if I produce any.

I have seen several pedigrees of animals deemed "pure standards" (and they were gorgeous animals!) that actually have black in the line. It may not be specifically noted, but if cross referenced with other pedigree cards where the colors are noted for several generations, some of the animals on the "pure standard" pedigree with no color label actually are black. This didn't phase me, as the standard animal in front of me was so amazing & there are some incredibly strong black lines out there, but I tend to raise an eyebrow when "pure" gets thrown around too much. It does make me appreciate the pedigrees that note color several generations back, if there is something someone is looking to avoid or is concerned about.

I wish I was closer to Bowen and Ronda: the Blue Vale females I am lucky enough to have here are awesome!! :)

I feel that "pure" standards means nothing. A nice animal is a nice animal if it came from more standards or a mutation.

I agree, but I can see the point if someone doesn't want ebony popping up somewhere because an animal wasn't listed as ebc, and has eb back in the lines.

All standards are not created equal in my eyes. Between crossing over, and the old practice of the best animals going to the standards and the rest going to the mutes, I worry about the genotype of what is phenotypically a great standard out of a mute. Since breeding is all about genotypes, that is where my concern is, hence the two are not equal.
