Hello everyone,

I have two male chinchillas, Shun (1) and Hiro (7 mo.) who live together and are usually quite good with eachother. Although they do have scuffles once in a while, they have never really hurt eachother.

Recently I've noticed that a lot of the short fur just above a chinchillas nose has been missing from my older chinchilla. It looks like it has been pulled out, and I can only see the younger one doing this as one chinchilla can't pull its own fur out in that area.

There does not seem to be any fighting, and the older chinchilla seems to be fine otherwise.

Could it be that the older one is just loosing hair, or is the younger one being aggressive? Has this happened to anyone else?

Thank you in advance,

piper

Is the skin where the fur used to be dry and scaly looking at all? Or does it look like normal nice flesh?

I have a new rescue in with funny fur on her nose. I was worried about fungus but I saw she has cage rage and pushes her nose through the cage bars. I've checked out her skin and it looks fine.

Check the skin to see if it's dry and scaly.

Thanks for your replies!

The skin on his nose looks like normal, non-scaley flesh. Oddly enough, he's not the one who pushes his nose between bars, its the little one who does, and he's not missing any fur.

I'll keep a lookout for dry skin or anything like that.

Thanks!
