I just noticed today that my male chinchilla's fur is wet on his front, but did not see anything else. Then a few minutes ago I was watching him and saw he is pulling the fur out of the inside of his front legs! I'm so worried because we have only had him and his female a month. I've researched them so much and done everything possible to keep them happy...but I guess it's not working. I don't know what to do from here. He is only pulling out fur. There is no fungus and his teeth are fine. He is eating, drinking and going to the bathroom normally. I'm just not sure what to do from here and obviously feeling desperate.

If the fur on his chest is wet it sounds like he could be drooling which is a big indicator of dental problems. You say his teeth are fine but has he had a full dental exam and X-rays recently? Those two things are the only way to know. He fur is probably uncomfortable and irritating being wet and he may just be ripping it out because if that.

Wet chest is almost always a tooth problem. Separate him from the female and get him to a vet to do xrays. If he has malo you don't want him passing that on to his kits. A visual oral exam rarely works. Xrays are a must.

For some reason I did not get any notification that anyone commented on this. Any idea how I can get notified if someone comments? I have a ton to say now.

First we got a cute little surprise! Eva had a baby boy! (yes don't worry we have followed all the rules w/ separation and everything else)

Since I posted this Walle stopped chewing and I've only seen him do it once since. Could a chin go a month in between drooling if he has teeth problems? Now I'm worried!

****oo-Yes the female does have uneven fur! They have been separated for 13 days and she still looks the same. I thought maybe he was chewing her fur too so I watched them like a hawk and never saw him do it so I assumed it was because the weather change. Thoughts on this?
