Preparing wood

Yesterday I prepared wood for my chins for the first time. I followed the instructions given herehttp://www.rivendellchinchillas.com/woodprep.html but since there isn't a specific time given for how long the wood should stay in the oven, I'm worried I may not have left them long enough. Can anyone tell me about how long it usually takes? Also, what could happen if they weren't left long enough?

Mould. Just use your finger nail to press into the wood and see if it leaves a mark or not. If the bark is still soft it needs more time. You could also take a stick and see if it snaps easily.
