OK, so we got Trousers over a month ago from a woman who was trying to breed her (we have no idea what her pedigree might be, so we will not be trying to breed her). Tonight, I was petting her belly while she was standing up and watching television, and I noticed that her nipples seem to be really elongated. She also has a little bulge...

When we picked her up, the lady told us that she had not been with a male for about a month. This would put her at about 2 - 2.5 months along (if she is pregnant). I really can't tell; I'm afraid of handling her too much because if she is pregnant I don't want to hurt the baby. She was REALLY underweight when we got her (you could feel all of her bones), so I would have thought that if she were pregnant, her body would have reabsorbed the fetus since she wasn't in good shape to breed. I have tried feeling the bulge on her tummy, and it is fairly firm to the touch. I can't even tell if I'm feeling movement from a baby or if she just twitches every once in a while when I'm feeling for movement.

I know that pregnancies for chins last around 110 to 115 days, so I would think we would have a little time before a baby, however, this poor girl was put in with multiple males in an INSANE effort to produce another baby like her. I have no idea who the father could be, but I do know that she did try breeding her with a pink-white.

What are some other signs to watch for? I have tried to find info, but without knowing when she was bred, I'm not sure what she should look like or feel like. She is on a good diet (Oxbow pellets and hay), she gets occasional treats (cheerios), and her cage is cleaned twice a week. I will be looking into baby-safe cages, just in case!

best bet is to get a scale. Really the only way to can track if she is pregnant or not. I wouldn't suggest pushing around for babies too much, it can be dangerous to the mother and possible kits. Any change in sleeping position and moods, intense house cleaning are all things I have heard people explain with their mommies...

Good luck and keep us posted!

A scale might have helped from the begining, but where do you start now?
If her nipples are elongated, it could happen ANYTIME in the next 10 days - probably sooner!
There are about 3 threads in the past week about surprise kits - all the answers are there! Good luck!

I'll keep a close eye on her. Don't worry, I'm not pressing on her tummy or anything, I just put a couple of fingers there and feel for movement (kind of like trying to find a pulse on a person). I'm home all next week because it's spring break for the school I work at.

She has also been sleeping a lot more and eating hay by the bowlful. I haven't noticed her sleeping on her side since she's been sleeping in her hidey-hut.

Could this also explain why she hasn't been into meeting my other girls?

I had a brown velvet female that would literally "throw out" the male, at about 80 days - chase him until I pulled him out! She'd let him back in after 3 weeks, though.
I think some like to be alone while birthing!

If she starts chugging water that is a good sign - thats what my females do towards the end...I would just put her in a baby safe cage and wait :)

I would mark on the calander 111 days after the last day she was in with the male. That way you have an end point that you definetly know for sure. I agree with the scale, it helps a lot. But if you think she was under weight, that may not prove much. I notice my very pregnant mothers drinking a ton. It sounds like you are taking very good care of her. Good luck!

Agreed, it could be any day now or up to another month and a half. There has been some good advice on this thread. Just follow it and you should be fine.
