Last night when i was brushing the poop off the chinnies cage i noticed that most of their poop was tiny, this worried me so i have kept an eye on it and just given them plenty of food, hay and water. Today their poop seemed back to normal. Sometime during this evening their poop has gotten more and more smushy, its not diareah yet and im hoping it will get better on its own and that i can avoid the vets. They are acting normal in behaviour but they both seem a little off their food and just eating alot of hay and drinking quite alot of water. Is their anything else i should be doing ??? I just want them to be OK.

I would go ahead and offer more hay and less pellets for a couple of days. You may also want to get some shredded wheat cereal (unsweetened, obviously) and offer each one a half of a piece of the cereal. It has firmed my chinchillas poo pretty well in the past, before it progressed past the soft stage.

i have the same problem as you! this happened to me today! my chin ruby has been eating a lot of hay, but not much pellets and her poop is green and mushy. i dont know what to do!

You may want to start your own thread so that others can see your situation. What are you feeding? Pellets? Hay? Treats? Mushy and green poo is not good. Mushy poo is diarrhea. How is she behaving? Is she lethargic?

Everything here is normal and the only difference here is that the sun has started to come out :S dont know if that would make a difference. Today their poop still isnt back to normal but is no worse than last night.

Thanks Chinnmama, i will definatly try shredded wheat.

Brittanyydevan, green poop really doesnt sound right and if my chinnies poop went green i would just go to the vets. I hope your chinnies get better :)

i'm feeding her hay and pellets. no treats. she's behaving the same as usual. bouncing around all happy and running on her wheel alllllll night. she's been eating a LOT of hay recently and thats new to her diet and i stopped feeding her treats that she used to be eating cuz i was told they weren't good for her.

ditto! and NO treats, just wood sticks.

Ive been keeping an eye on my chinnies all day and noticed their poop seems to be going back to normal. Im going to keep with the basics and keep it to no treats for a while :D Hopefully it stays normal !!
