I clean Evies cages every other day and I do fresh lining ever week yet she still has dropping stuck in her fur what do I do?

she may love it, but that is one of the most inferior and low quality foods out there. full of treats and other crud. most likely why her poop is soft and sticky.

you need to switch her over to a high quality pellet like Oxbow or Mazuri asap. don't do the slow switch, just toss out the fiesta and start feeding the good food instead. i have Rhino on Oxbow and he does well on it.

when you do the 'cold switch' to a better quality food, ensure there is lots of loose hay for her to eat. she may refuse the new pellets, but don't give in, she'll eat them once she realizes she's not getting anything else.

ok petco said it was the best were actually gonna get her good food theres a guy who makes chin food in San Diego and I wanted to get his stuff some people said it was the best

pet store employees know squat about chins, to put it bluntly. i'd never go by what an employee said, unless i personally knew them and knew they had and cared for chins properly.

what is the brand name of this food from San Diego? would you be able to get it on a regular and consistent basis? having a large quantity of pellets 'laying around' for just one chin means the pellets will go bad/stale faster than you can use them. better to buy smaller bags more frequently to ensure the food is fresh. I don't get anything bigger than a 5 pound bag when i buy pellets.

I personally would go with Oxbow. many members here use it, it's easy to get (either from select members here or from petsmart), and it's one of the best quality feeds out there.

i wouldn't buy anything from a site that sells unsafe and unhealthy treats. dried fruit and nuts are the exact things you DON'T want to be feeding your chins.

as far as their feed, do they provide an ingredient list so that you know exactly what you are feeding your chin? i noticed the photos only show the front label, and i don't see any other labels. if not, i would not buy that feed.

I second what ChinnyMom says, almonds, raisins, and banana chips? you better off finding someone on here that sells food, and probably a lot cheaper too!!

No apple, unless it's applewood. Safer treats if you do give them in moderation only would be dried rosehips, unsweetened shredded wheat. You can also offer them dried (unsprayed) apple, pear, mulberry, misc other safe woods, and the chins will think they are great treats, and you don't have to skimp on them like you do the other stuff I mentioned.

very bad idea. fruits and veggies contain natural sugar. sugar in any form is bad for chins, because chins are 'hind gut fermenters' and their digestive system simply cannot handle sugar.

good treats to give are half a spoon size shredded wheat (not the frosted kind!), a small pinch of old fashioned oats (not the quick cook kind), a small piece of dry pasta that is 100% durham wheat (like a 2 inch piece of spaghetti), a rosehip, or even a new wood stick to chew on.

good chin food.

I have all 8 of my furballs on Purina Rabbit Show Chow the one in the dark blue bag...they seem to really like it...they love the shredded wheat and fresh apple sticks that i make everyother week...gotta love the fact my grandparents have an apple tree in their back yard...but you definately need to get your chin off that fiesta mix...

I changed to that Ox chow she loves it I think I was just too late cause shes got a bald patch on her nose :(

does she stick her nose through the cage bars a lot? if so, i'd say that could be a possibility as to where the bald patch is coming from.

for the more experienced members here, is fungus likely to happen on the nose?

(it's Oxbow, not Ox chow)

Yes it can happen around the nose, but pictures if there are any would probably be of great help. It usually starts around any area with moisture, like nose, eyes etc.

Your chin shouldn't be eating any other foods, except for a high quality pellet, hay, and the very occasional treat of plain cheerios, plain shredded wheat, rosehips, chin cookies...they really don't need any treats but since we love to spoil, feed them sparingly. Your chin also needs wood chews, such as applewood sticks to chew on for her teeth. No fruit, no veggies...that can be affecting her poop and making it soft. Improve her diet and I'm sure her poops will also improve.

she does stick her nose through the bars there is no fungus but there was poop sticking to her fur right on that spot. I clean the cage very frequently once a week with daily clean up I cant do pictures right now but Ill try later
