so i have had my chin for 3 weeks now and we try to play 30min a night and keep it consistant. he loves to climb me and lay on my face and climbs all over my wife. he is constantly making a noise that sounds so sad. why is he making the noise? what is he trying to say or do? also he likes to go over the the air conditioner vent on the floor and roll in it like a dust bath why is he doing this? he likes to roam the house and when put in the bathroom for playtime he goes to the door and jumpt towards the knob. is he trying to escape? thanks for all advice

Is he making a very soft chirping sort of noise? If so, he's just talking to you. He used to make that same sound with his mother and siblings when he was out at playtime. I think it's just to keep in communication with the others around him.

The air conditioner thing is weird. I have never heard of a chin doing that. I do have a few who like to play with the hose when I vacuum their cages. Maybe it's kind of the same thing.

abby after reviewing the chin sounds page its the communication one like you said. i wish that noise didnt sound so sad lol. he still isnt big on letting us touch him yet but he loves to climb on us

I agree that the sound just sounds like he's just chatting with you. My girls do this too when out for playtime.

Chibi always tries to get to the doorknob on the door in the bathroom, but I don't think she's really trying to escape. I think your chin is probably just trying to land on the knob or something.

And perhaps the air conditioning vent is cooler, or there's air coming out and he likes the feeling of it?

if he isn't letting you touch him, but is crawling all over you, it won't be long before you will be allowed to at least scratch his head. Just try laying your hand down on the floor in front of him and not moving it. Get him used to your hand and the fact that you aren't going to grab him.

I think they just get their wires crossed sometimes. I have a couple chins that when i let them out and on my down comforter i think they get confused somehow cause they dig at it and try to roll. It's the funniest thing to me. I wouldn't worry to much.
Definately would keep a good eye on him when he's out of the bathroom or a confined area cause there is so much they can get into tho. You would be shocked at some of the spaces they could fit into
