I am pretty sure that someone, somewhere has already asked this, but I am going to ask again!

Are the play pens that some of you have, the same play pens that they sell in pet stores? Or is something that you have made yourself?

I purchased mine at Petsmart on-line. I like this style because it has a doorway so I can set it up (I have two connected to make a larger area for them) right at my chinnies' cage door and they use a ramp that I made to get into the playpen. They have to be watched because it is only 29 inches high and I have 2 chinnies that have made it out LOL.

I have the Ware deluxe playpen. It is like a canvas material and it is great! It have a cover you can zip on which makes it even better because many chins jump out of their playpens.

We have the same one. Our chins learned quickly how to jump out, so we also clip/drape a cotton sheet over the top to keep them in.

I have the same pen, and I also have 2 attached together to make one large pen. Tink's is also attached to her cage, and she can come in and out of her cage at all times as she pleases. Tinkerbell is not a jumper, and has never tried to jump over the pen, but it can be an issue for others. There are pens available with tops and/or bottoms for added security.

LOL I have a 4 ft high piece of thin plywood to put in the way of the chins from escaping out of the hallway and entry way (when I actually use the entry way.) I should get another playpen, that would be good to have again for playing with chins in the middle of the big chin room. The problem is that I keep giving the playpens away to people because they need one... :)

I like the one you posted the link to, Morgan. :)

Thanks Susan! I think Nikki has the same one as well, I was too lazy to check all the links before LOL
I wish I had some sort of hallway for my chins to roam but until the basement is finished and doors are put in place they have their fun trying to escape the playpen.

At my other house i had this great stairway to the basement with solid walls on each side. That was the best place to have playtime. I miss that. Someday I am going to build a house with several little stairways for chinnie playtime. All I had to do was put up the divider at the bottom and they would run up and down and play with toys, it was great. :)

The playpens are only useful as long as the chins are distracted enough to not jump them and get away! I have a customer, who goes to great pains to give them everything they want to keep them interested in toys and boxes and playthings so they won't launch over her playpens. She does a great job with that! I should get some pictures next time I am at her place.

That definitely sounds like an awesome play area! My chins would be in heaven with something like that.
My oldest chin is the only one who has figured out how to get to the top of the playpen but he sedomly does it because, like you said, having something to interest them at playtime usually keeps them distracted. Ferret.com also has the cover for the type of playpen I have although I'm not sure if I would be able to sit in the pen with them once it is covered.

Aha mine learned to escape that, they crawl under the bottom part then squeeze out underneath

That's just such a chinnie thing for them to do! LOL They've figured out a way to get over or around just about everything I have tried. The only way to keep them from getting out is having something too heavy for them to move and to high for them to jump. Evil little chinchillas.

I've been using the ware playpen for almost a year with my chins and they've never escaped out of it. Not saying it can't happen and definitely heard of chins escaping out of their own cages but these come in 2 sizes, the medium and large. I have the large size but I have seen and felt the medium and believe it's possible because it's shorter and lighter in weight than the large.

The chins in my playpen.

I use the same one. But I have 6 attached to each other to make my entire living room a play pen. Spoiled boy :) ... I love the playpen.

Wow! Definitely spoiled! I don't have that large of an area by their cage, two fit perfectly :)), wish I did!

I used those wire cube shelving units. We zippy tied them together. We have used it for years now. I don't let the chins out unsupervised anymore since we found Lucy, our newest dog. She isn't safe around them. So, we bar the door to the chin room, and I use the "fencing" while I am in there so I can keep a better eye on them.

Oh my goodness! All of those wonderful spoiled chinnies must REALLY love you guys! I love all the set ups and might have to "steal" some of the designs, if that is okay? ;)
