Hi there! I have a question... Has anyone heard of a way to somehow "dip" a metal cage to thoroughly remove EVERYTHING??? Also, on that note, is there a way to effectively and safely get that plastic coating on those cages? Thank you VERY much for your help...! :D

I use vinegar to remove build up that soapy bleach water can't get off. You want to put plastic coating on a cage? I don't know how you could do that. The only thing you could do is maybe paint a cage with spray paint maybe. I prefer to not have any coating on the cages because the chins chew it off and it looks bad in a short time.

I know you can sometimes have things powder coated, but they sand blast the cages, pans first. Maybe check the yellow pages. I know bird people have their cages revamped from time to time. Just an idea?

Powder coating would be the way to go. I would not recommend painting a cage. I bought a used cage, sanded, primed, and painted it. It looked okay for a little while but it's been less than 2 years and needs to be repainted; you can see everywhere the chins have tried chewing and I think even the dust wears off the paint. It ended up costing me a lot more to paint it than I thought it would.

Oh yeah...every time the cage gets scrubbed a little more paint is going to come off of it. One year I decided to paint all my pans and it didn't help much in keeping the pans from getting build up on them or rusting - the pain just started coming off with the monthly cage pan scrubbings.

if you meant how do you get that plastic coating off the cage wires, i would think the wire underneath would rust easily. using a different cage is the safe option instead.

Hey there guys! I'm sorry, I thought my reply posted, but I guess it didn't! Seems I need a little more practice at this...! Lol! Anyways, I want to thank you ALL for your help! :D That was a GREAT idea, that we honestly hadn't even thought of. It would make sense that bird cages would have a need to be "revamped" more often than chin cages, so a good sand blasting and then some powder coating seems like it will do the trick! I just hope I am able to find one reasonably close to RI and at an affordable price. Thank you VERY much, again, and if there is anything anyone could add, we would LOVE to hear it! :D
