When chins eat their wooden sticks, perches, coins, etc, do they normally eat the whole thing? Mine love to chew on the wood, but it is as if they are "polishing" it. Once it looks like smooth driftwood, they seem to move on to something else. Are they just "licking the frosting off the cake" so to speak? Will they eventually eat the whole piece or should I be replacing it?

Also, some of the wood pieces (all wood is purchased by a reputable dealer advertised here) splinters into sharp pieces. Is that ever a concern? (I do vacuum daily)

Thanks : )

Chins prefer some woods over others and some even prefer different shapes (like twigs, sticks, coins, etc.) over others. Some of mine chew the bark only, some will chew an apple stick in half.

I just keep an eye on it and if I see one starting to look sharp or something, I remove it.

All of mine are bark chewers too and then leave the rest for me to take care of.

Unfortunately, I'm not big on chewing wood...

I've got bark strippers here, too. Sometimes Bess will eat all of a piece of pear wood, but it's pretty rare.

Ive got bark strippers and wood eaters here. But it depends on the wood, too. I have one chin that only eats apple wood and the other two will eat anything I give them.

Mine are bark chewers as well- that's the most delicious part! Except one really likes apple wood, so he will chew those until they break into two pieces, and then he neglects them.

Lucifer its a stick dismantler-He gets a stick and the stick ends up being in 3-4 pieces, he leaves the bark alone!

Thanks everyone. That helps. It is amazing how different the different these cute critters can be!
