This is starting to get highly irritating. I have two cages, one with father and son. The other with mother and two daughters.
The father, chico, has been here in that cage for around 5 years, and his son has been with him since birth. And the son just celebrated his 1 year birthday. Their in a FN cage and the trays of each floor are covered with litter. For a long time they've always used it with no problems what so ever. But the last month or two, one (if not both) has been peeing all over their food/hay shelf. Getting it all over the shelf, their bowls, and all they hay they pulled out. Nearly every morning i wake up to this. And its getting a bit out of hand.
My females, also in a FN cage, started with litter covering the trays. But hey were very adamant about only using corners. Corners only! So i started only putting litter in the corners instead of the full tray. (since 80% was being tosses out of the cage anyway) And they used the corners just fine.
So i added some corner litter pans that i got a long time ago for my ferrets. (yea.. that was a waste of $100 , my ferrets will never use them lol) So i put the corner litter pans in. 3 pans on bottom floor. and 1 pan on top floor.
And for the last two months or so, they have used them without a problem what so ever. (i was amazed, and grateful) But now their starting to use the rest of the tray as well. Often going right next to the litter pan ><.
So each morning between the two cages.. theirs a lot. While the girls might bounce back since theirs just started recently, the boys been doing this a while. And its highly unsanitary as well as annoying.
One other thing iv noticed. When i clean the shelfs and trays (50-50 vinegar/water) It seems to make them do this even more! -_-
Mainly with the guys I'm at a loss for what to do. Right now i cant buy them anything new to try, i have a SSD Hearing at the end of the month. If that goes through i might actually be able to. But until then, i need to find something to help with this.
I don't want to put the chillers on the shelf with their food cause their heavy. If it goes over the edge, their going to get hurt. I'm also not keen on the idea of moving their food an hay down to the tray with the litter either.
Any ideas?
(FYI, i didn't intend for this thread to be that long lol Sry)
