My boys, Terrance and Phillip always seem to pee in one corner. I bought a glass dish today and filled it with carefresh and put it in their pee corner. They are housed on fleece though. I was just wondering if this was the way to try and potty train? I think the boys pretty much trained themselves, I'm hoping!

In the past two days my new girl, Mira has peed on me twice when I take her out of the cage. Yesterday she did it when I was checking her nipple the kits had been rough with. Tonight I caught her as she was trying to jump out of the cage, and my shirt ended up wet :p I've never been peed on by a chinchilla before. I read about females spraying, but wasn't sure why the did it. Or if just peeing on me when displeased counts as spraying?

They should pretty much train themselves. You may have some accidents from time to time; that's normal. Keep in mind that not all chinchillas can be potty trained. Either they will use it, or they won't

When you say that Mira is peeing on you, is she doing it while you are trying to pick her up or while you are holding her? Chins don't normally pee when being held so it concerns me if that is what is happening. Now, if she is doing it while you are trying to take her out of the cage, she is probably spraying you. they will spray when they are angry, scared, or feeling they need to defend themselves or their kits. That kind of peeing is normal.

you just about got it, you put the dish in the corner they go pee in, however, when you first start off, its better to put some soiled litter on top so they know what the box is far,

as far as also using fleece, that just depends on your chin, if i put fleece in, they won't use the liter pan and will pee on the fleece, however, i have heard other people say even with fleece their chins still use the litter pan.. goodluck.

She does it as I am picking her up, I'm wet before she is even against me. Thanks for the info! Gotta get used to this spraying then. I'm keeping old shirts next to the cage to use now :p

Terrance and Phillip seem to get the idea pretty well so far! I just put the litter box in last night, and this evening the shavings are wet. I didn't have any soiled shavings to put in it either, I use fleece.
