i was on a website looking at differnt foods/treats you can give chinns. and i saw peanuts and i wasnt really sure. I know raisons, oats, weaties.
but never heard of feeding them peanuts. is it okay? what are some other treats you can give them?

Some people make little cookies for their chinchillas made from canned pumpkin, oat flour then any ingredients you choose. Some put in shredded hay, some put in ground pellets, some put in oats, flax seeds and/or barley. Then you bake them on low until they are hard and dry.

Avoid peanuts , they are too high in fat. Even small amounts are harsh for chins delicate systems. Hepatic lipidosis is a condition of the liver caused by an overload of fats.
There are other more healthy alternatives: rose hips, hibiscus flowers, nettle, oats, alfalfa hay, apple sticks (several members sell them and chins really love them), www.mysticmosaics.org sells Gourmet Dipped Apple Sticks ) or offer other safe woods like pecan http://chinstore.azchins.com/Toys.htm.
It's a great idea to offer different hays, like meadow ( Oxbow organic meadow hay), mountain grass (www.americanpetdiner.com ,this hay is my chins favorite hay!), etc.

Yes Peanuts are too high in fat for chins. Tanya nailed it as far as great treats for chins, and Carol's homemade chinnie cookies another great idea!

Boy, you're lucky Hedgemom isn't around - I got flamed bigtime for even thinking about it!
Don't do it!! No, no, no!
