I am going to sign up for an account with paypal, there is an option to sign up for a paypal credit card but it asks for your soical security number is this normal? Is it even safe?

i WON'T DO IT. I do have an account with them and I got their Debit card. I just transfer money from my bank onto it. I don't know about giving my SS# out over the net. I just ain't that gutsy yet. LOL

Yes, just like any credit card they are going to want to check your credit before they grant you a card. Paypal is a secure site. You might be able to call them to do an application - but then you will be giving your SS number to a live person.

Anytime you sign up for a credit card they will ask for your social security number, they run your credit to find out if you are "credit worthy" by their standards. With the economy like it is a lot of the credit card companies have tightened standards, I wouldn't recommend putting in the application unless you have very good to perfect credit. The chances of the application being approved with anything lower are slim to none right now. An inquiry will not do much damage to your credit score though, maybe lower it a point, so If you're interested then go ahead, but read the disclosures and pay attention to the fees and rates. As far as I know Paypal is a very safe company, I wouldn't worry about putting in an application for credit with them.

Yeah, I trust Paypal even though I dont like their fees or that eBay is the same company so basically they get money twice. Anyhow, the SS# is normal, just like any credit company, and it is over an HTTPS which is secured, so you shouldn't need to worry about it.
