Okay so I've had my chins for 6 months now. I chin proof my living room every time they get out which includes my couch and love seat in which I stuff with heavy blankets so they cannot get under the couches since it seems to be one of their favorite spots and can be sometimes difficult to get them back in cage. Lately they have been getting under the loveseat when I think I have it secure like fort knoxs and kindof frustrating when they squeeze they lil bodies right on through!! Usually the dust bath works when I I get it out but again It depends on their mood...I feel totally out of control when they do this and wondering please if someone can give me another idea of keeping them from getting under the loveseat. I've lately considered getting rid of my loveseat which is totally crazy and I have never been a fan of letting them play in bathroom due to bacteria and my bathroom rather small and the living room is what they are used to..thank you guys so much:tantrum:

Are they escaping from their cage or are you purposely letting them out? If its the latter, you need to get a play pen or something to keep them to a more confined space. They're going to keep going exactly where you don't want them if you give them free range of the entire living room. If they're escaping from their cage, then you need to get something to lock/clamp their doors shut.

You could buy a dog playpen, like this I've seen several people on here have gone that route. Another idea is to get the metal fence like play pens, like this if the rest of the area is chinproofed and all you need is to keep them out from under the loveseat then just fence the loveseat in with the pen rather then using the pen to contain the chin. You don't have to go with that brand just giving you examples, but it does seem to be a popular brand.

Other than being frustrating it can be a major health hazard, what if someone stops by and accidentally sits on one while it's under/in the couch, what's he chewing on in there?

Play pen, large closet, bathroom ( hasn't killed any chins yet that I know of)...

I have been concerned on them chewing on carpet fibers. I have put plenty of apple sticks under there and constantly watch them with a flash light while they are under there. Other than carpet and sticks there is nothing else under there and I get them out at night so my children are asleep so there is no risk of someone sitting on them. I think the best thing would be to get some type of play pen around the loveseat. I just need to make sure its not real high because their cage sits on a table by the loveseat and the arm of the loveseat is what they use to get out and in their cage. And another issue is to make sure its big enough to go around my loveseat. I wonder if a fencing company I could get some type of wire that way I could get exact dimensions for it to go around the loveseat??

You could try blocking it off with cardboard. You have to watch that they don't chew though it.

I have also thought about cardboard but how could I secure it well enough so they don't slide by it?? Maybe tape? But what if they chew on the tape?? I suppose I could just really monitor them but that scares me too...im sure tape would just be great in their digestive system!!:hair:

When I had a couch in the family room, we built a 2x4 frame and put the couch on top of it, the legs were just outside of the frame so the chins could only get under a few inches and could be swiped out easily.
