Now this is bizarre, but up in WA state it used to be dark orange to red. Since I've moved to LA everyone's has been honey colored.
I really notice it when I do my weekly wall wipedown, it looks like I've splattered honey and not blood. Kind of a nice change. It may be because the higher ambient temperature causes more water intake.
As the others said, it ranges. I'd only get worried if it smells pungent or infected. Sometimes a female with a uterine infection will be dark and smelly but they leak all over the shelves and houses and make a big mess.
