My chinchillas been with me a few weeks he is well adjusted.....well he has enough food for a few days and I was introducing him to a new food but he wont eat it ( hes eating the pellets he was raised on, hay, and drinking)

they dont sell the brand I got from the pet supplies anywhere around me ...I was reading the ings.....and there is a ton of stuff added to what he was raised on...I tried mixing in half and half and he wont go near the new stuff even when the raised on food is mixed in so I throw out the food and give him some of what i have left of the original stuff.....

I bought the

kaytee Fortidiet pro health and he will not go near it becasue the vita ( just pellets but I see paypa, carrots, apple in the ing.....no corn) exotics....one he was raised on had all kinds of stuff....

what should I do they have this available same brand different mixture but looks like a lot of extras in there.....

do I go with a different brand again?? these are both only pellets

hes not even out of his old food yet and Im freaking out!! TY for any suggestions

oh and I was just in another thread and I see corn in the Kaytee!!

and I stuck my nose in the Vita pellets and they seem better smelling (fruit )

and the kaytee ones smell like just hay

my girl was on crap food when we got her. we threw that out. gave her some Mazuri, it took her about a week to eat it but she ate it and now she eats it all the time.
chins wont starve themselves, they will eat when they are hungry.

TY I am probably not being patient enough.....I am the kind of person who will worry days ahead of time .....

they do have Mazuri at the stores I think maybe he was addicted to the fruits in the other one

Mazuri and Oxbow are two of the "good" pellets to give that are commonly found at PetSmart. It is best to give feed with no treats in it at all since chins love to pick out all of the junk and leave the pellets. You can try the slow switch with the food, but many people actually just toss the junk food that came with the chin and do a cold switch to the good food. Make sure you give plenty of hay in case the chin is hesitant. Hopefully between Mazuri and Oxbow you can find something that is palatable to your chin.

TY they have both there so I hope he will be happy with one....yes he has plenty of hay I was surprised they eat so much. I am probably making him self conscious always looking at him to see when he eats poor fella lol

i worried like crazy when my girl wouldn't eat her pellets, but i made sure she had lots of hay in the cage.
and then outta no where she just started eating her pellets, needless to say i was a happy chinnie mom lol.

I know I love my animals and was very new/still am with chinchillas....they are very different animals...and I would love to have more but I know I would drive myself crazy worrying about more then one....I must say Chin-chin has been a joy and very social considering where he was before my house
