I always close the toilet lid when he comes out and play, but today my bf forgot to close it and I wasn't paying attention. Nemo is used to jump on the toilet seat and he didn't know there was no lid today so he jumped into the water. Didn't get completely soaked but his fur did get wet as long as his face. So then I blow dried him with cold air and he got 90% dried up, then I gave him dust bath for a longer period of time. He looks fine now but I guess he freaked out a little and now he just sits there and being sad. I am worried, did I do the right thing after he got wet? I hope he is okay. There won't be any fungus right? Since he is dry?

I read they can get very sick after getting wet, just want to make sure. His fur feels and looks dry. I don't know why he's so inactive now.

Don't feel guilty he will forgive u soon enough..chins get cranky at us as just like we do at people but they get over it . Your other option was to leave him wet, let him get sick and maybe grow mold and bacteria . Trust me you did the right thing

He's inactive because he's scared. You would be too if you fell into something. Give him time to calm down. I'm sure he will be fine. Like I said, make sure he is 100% dry. If his fur feels dry close to the skin, he is dry. If not, you need to dry him more.

How can I not feel guilty, I love him so much! Like you said, he will forgive me, because he's such a sweetie. Thank you!

Thank you! Phew my heart skipped a beat when I see fur and water on the bathroom floor and him sitting there being wet and scared. I guess their fur just fall off when its wet?
He just enjoyed me massaging him. And he's eating his pellets now. Already better!
Thank you so much!

That's good news! The fur on the floor is probably a fur slip. Shelly once fell into the toilet. It was probably the first month I brought her home (also my first month of owning chins). She was mad, but she was also fine. Just make sure the toilet is down before letting him out. I know I do.

This happened to me and my chin after I first got her, and she jumped onto an open toilet and got wet. I just dried her off thoroughly and then gave her a dust bath. I never had any issues.

The good news is, they're not Gremlins. :) As long as they're thoroughly dried promptly there shouldn't be a problem. (Crash hopped into a dog dish that I thought was empty but had about 1" of water in the bottom. I felt like such a dipstick.)

Any time a chin is startled or frightened, he/she can drop fur. It has nothing to do with getting wet, only with getting scared. :)

Yah I did have a chin that got wet before and she was just fine. I blow dried her on cold and gave her a good dust bath and no problems! you did the right thing!

Nemo is fine now I think, he's forgotten what happened already apparently, he's now jumping around, running in his wheel and chewing his new toy like crazy! lol
Thank you guys! :D

Hehehe, I am still not fully convinced about that, Dragon makes a pretty evil sounding kack if I try to take his sticks away from him, sounds like something a Gremlin might do ;)

I had two escape from different pens, chase each other into the bathroom and both ended up in the toilet, never left the toilet seat up again during play!

I know I shouldn´t laugh but I´m picturing two chin shaped blurs running past followed by two splashes! Bet you had some grumpy chins after that ordeal, Dawn.

Kishi got wet once, she jumped right into a bucket of water i was using to clean up her ledges, poor baby. i towel dried her but she still rolled on the towel, until she got every last drop, and she was SOAKED, i had a deal of a time getting her dry again. i was very lucky and never let something like that ever happen again,i felt so horrible

I've never seen a chin soaked, they must look like aliens with giant ears. Lol

she was so skinny! i couldn't belive how thin she was under all the fur, poor baby, it took her days to forgive me for letting her get into such a mess,

So did Giz! Granted, it was only his back feet and butt. But yea, I had to dry him off and he was pretty upset about it.
