Most of you know I'm NOT a breeder!! Tomorrow I'm taking in a Beige girl that "may" be pregnant. I'll have her on a temporary basis, maybe 5 or 6 months tops. Her chin-mommy is going through a very difficult "personal" situation and was originally trying to "sell" her on Craigslist and was devastated that she had to. She mentioned in her ad that she'd like to buy her back when she was in a better position to do so. I intervened and offered to provide her a loving "foster home" until things settled down in her life and she could take her back...she agreed and thanked me non-stop!!

I asked the girl "why" she thinks she may be pregnant....her response was that the people she bought her from (3 weeks ago) had about 15 chins, male & female, in ONE cage and their living conditions were terrible...sounded like a basement breeder!!!! So, there's really no way to tell "when" she got pregnant...that is IF she is, but I couldn't imagine why she wouldn't be. I've created her a "page" in my chin book to track her weekly weight and her progress. I do have a spare cage that I will baby-proof for her. Since all of my chins are boys, she will be kept upstairs in my bedroom while she is here (the boys are downstairs in my living room).

I've been reading the "Breeding & Babies" section trying to cram in as much as I can. I'm sure I'll eventually have tons of questions as time goes on....so, I just wanted to give everyone a heads up! Of course I'm fearful of the horrible things that "could happen", but I'm also trying to optimistic about the whole thing. I think I'm a pretty smart person with alot of common sense and that combined with the info here on the forum & future help from you guys will influence a positive outcome...I'm just praying for a "pleasant" experience with this girl and her kits!

Thanks in advance!!

Wow, Tabitha! Very kind of you to open your home to a foster situation. Best wishes with her!

Better get everything in writing including possible vet costs, where possible babies are going and who gets possible money for them and possible death or loss (theft, escape etc) of mom and possible kits. Also put a time limit on this agreement. This lady sounds like a flake, she just got the chin, now she can't take care of it. Thank you for helping the chin, I just hope you don't get burned.

THANKS for the advice!!! I have thought about all of that. I already have a written agreement for her to sign which includes her PAYING ME $100 for providing the chin with a safe, loving home on a temporary basis and to cover the costs for food and other needs. She told me that if the girl is in fact pregnant, I could keep the kits for my troubles <rolleyes>. If I end up left with all of them (mom & kits) I would find them loving "pet only" homes. I have noted in this written agreement that if she fails to take them back by the deadline, they become "MY" pets and she gives up her rights to them. I know there are alot of people that will just TELL you what you want to hear, so I don't consider myself too gullable (some may disagree LOL). I would just hate it if some ***** bought her and didn't give her what she needs and something horrible happened to her and/or her babies.

Good luck. there is a chance she is not pregnant hopefully that is the case but if not most pregnancies go by very uneventfully and mom usually knows what to do.

I wish you the best Tabitha ! What a wonderful decision you made ! (:) Hope all goes well for you and the chinnie and of course "Reggie".....

Just arrived home with "Bumble Bee"...think I'm gonna call her "BB". Anyway she was wonderful on the ride...it was 5 hours round trip. She's romping around in her cage checking things out. She's a very friendly girl!! She's a Beige with the cutest ear freckles LOL. I'll post pics of her in Chin Chat!!

Thanks for all the kind words!!
