Okay, SO- I know I've got to purchase the steel, larger pans for the flooring and eliminate the plastic ones they provide you with, and I also know that you need to reinforce the ramps with something to further solidify/stabilize them, and that I also need to install a bunch of wooden shelves and ledges.
BUT, I have two questions-
Where I can get steel guarders to place around the cage perimeters to block any of the shavings/etc. from falling out and onto the floor (they're like, 5-6 inches tall I think, or somewhere around that).
And also, on a more girly note, I've noticed that a lot of people's FN's have frames that are cool/steely blue color and some people have FN's with frames that are metallic/regular colored steel. Does anyone know if it's a certain model that has the cool/steel blue coloring to the frame at all? Or how I can get that color FN?

In this video, she mentions that the guarders are custom made but yeah, that's what they look like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0r1AGafV6M Does anyone know where I could get something like those?

And also, I may be wrong about the different colors? It might have just been different lighting and what not that I've seen over the internet, but I thought I noticed a color variation.

The Ferret Nation cages are dark not steel colored. I think of mine as a greenish color actually. If you get the pans from bassequipment they should be high enough to catch shavings from falling on the floor. You don't need 5 to 6 inch guards. If you do that you wont see your chin in there lol.

It's best not to use the ramp or shelf the Ferret Nation comes with but instead remove it and do the wooden shelves and ledges.

The cages come a gray/black powdercoat. In different light, it looks different colors.

I purchased some guards that go around the cage to block bedding and poo from flying. They are not made for the FN, so the 24" ones work, but I didn't find any 36" ones, so there is about 6" left open on the back side and honestly they are not very effective and make a heck of a racket because they hang and bang on the metal when the chins jump around.

Personally, I think the bass pans are still too shallow and too expensive to be worthwhile.
We've come up with a neat, consumable, custom design wooden cage bottom surround that works better than the metal ones and is another chewing alternative for the chins. Each piece can be replaced individually too!
You can see pictures of what I'm talking about on our homepage.

I think I'm actually going to invest in one of those, thank you so much!

You can also make edges to go along your wooden shelves. Just grab 2" or 3" pieces of wood to glue to the shelves :)
