I am considering buying a Chinchilla Mansion cage from Quality Cage next year for my baby chin when it outgrows the current temp cage.

Can anyone who has a Quality Cage/Martin's type metal cage tell me if the whole cage rattles when their Chin uses its wheel.

My Chin is housed in my bedroom. I can hear the sound of her feet when she runs on her current wheel at night but it is in a Marchioro cage and the cage is very sturdy so that is the only sound. In fact I very happily fall asleep to the sound of her pounding on her wheel.

I also live in an apartment building and my downstairs neighbor's bedroom is directly under mine. I can hear them talk at night so if a whole cage was rattling at night I think they could hear it.

Thank you, Faye

I think it will depend on what type of wheel you have, and how heavy of a runner your chin is.

I have two chins, both in mansions, both with flying saucer wheels. One chin will run so hard you can't hear the t.v. over him (they're in the living room). The other one barely gets up to a trot on her wheel, it's so quiet I could sleep through it.

Hi Ann, thank you. That is what I was wondering. I was thinking of a Mansion with a Flying Saucer wheel. I have the plastic saucer now (she is NOT chewing it) so would want to stick with a saucer type.

I could switch wheels to a 15" drum wheel.

Also considering a 4 J's Cage so still have lots of decisions to make.

If you're looking for a quieter wheel, I would recommend the 15" Chin Spin from QC. We have a CS in one of our ferret nation cages, and a flying saucer in the other - for chins that pound on their wheels, the CS is far quieter. Even in our flimsier temp cages, the CS won by a fair amount.

I have a QC mansion and the 15 inch chin spin from QC. If the wheel is attached properly, it does not make the cage rattle at all, and I have a couple of chins that really get moving on it.

I have a saucer and a CS in Martin's cages. I have to say that the saucer is the quieter of the two. The one with the CS slaps the back of the ledge and shelf gaurds when they run. I'm sure I could sturdy it up and make it quiter, but it has the gaurds that sit in behind the pan and that is the main thing I hear slapping.

oops, maybe I will have to buy both and see which is best.

I am waiting to hear about a custom cage from 4 J's Plantation before I make any decisions.

I have a QC Mansion, with a Flying Saucer. It's so quiet, but make sure you attach it as tight as possible! One time after giving the whole cage a through cleaning, I didn't attach it properly and it rattled.

Thank you all for your advice. I have decided to go with a 4 Js Plantation cage in the future. I'm not as worried about rattling with that cage as it has a sturdy wooden frame. But I will be sure to mount what ever wheel I buy securely.
