Since yesterday, Chi-Chi has been making a noise very similar to this: http://www.chinchilla-sounds.de/bedr_e.htm
The website describes this sound as, "This sound is used quite often whenever a chin feels annoyed or cramped by another one. Chins make use of that sound from childhood and they will retain it all their life. The noise indicates, that the chin is harmless and defenceless (poor little chinchilla)."
Chi-Chi isn't housed with anyone so he's not annoyed with another chin. He's 13 years old so any time he starts making odd sounds, I panic.
He seems healthy, as far as I can tell. His eyes are bright, he's bouncy and alert, his teeth seem fine, he's not complaining when I press in on his sides to see if anything hurts, his weight is steady, he's not having any odd discharge from his nose or eyes, and he's eating and drinking normally. When I take him out of his cage for cuddles and play time, he completely stops making the noise.
The only "change" he's gone through is that I'm nine months pregnant. I don't know if that's what's causing this, but I figured I'd throw it out there, just in case.
It's becoming more and more frequent and consistent as the day progresses and it's freaking me out a bit. Is this something I should stop freaking out about, something to take him to the vet for, or something to keep an eye on before panicking?
