So currently it's 12:19am and my chnni is staying still just standing there in his cage.. Is this something I should worry about or should I just get a nights sleep?
I'm not sure if he's just adjusting to his new cage location-I moved him last night from the basement to my room.

Do u have experience with a chin doing this at night,, even though they slept through a lot of the day?

He is fine. Don't worry. He just has nothing better to do than stare off into space :) Give him something to do, like a wood chew stick, or brown paper bag, or a piece of cardboard with no inks or glues on it. That will give him something to do if you're worried that he is bored.

He is probably just adjust to you and his new space. Just because it is night does not mean he will be running around. Some days he may be more active than others. Yesterday I had a tame and lazy chinnie. Today I have a wild woman. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thank you! Yeah he has toys, wood sticks, and a cardboard home . But he hasn't moved in the last 30 mins :/ I guess I am being too paranoid

All my chins do this from time to time! Me and my Zoe love to have staring contests..usually she wins because one of the other 3 will do something to catch my eye and I have to look away! I think they are all in cahoots with her! ;)

lol thats something i would do.

quick question, dont mean to take away from the thread or anything but how do you remove the glue from toilet paper rolls? ive heard many ppl saying that you can give them toilet paper rolls but you have to remove the glue first. well last nite i was looking at a toilet paper roll and i was like how?

Last night I couldn't sleep so I got up to read on the couch near my chin's cage. He stopped running on his wheel and bouncing around to just stare at me. I guess he was wondering what I was doing interrupting his nighttime crazies? Or maybe chins are just weird and like to stare randomly. That's probably it, lols!

The main thing to keep in mind is that chinchillas are not nocturnal, they are crepescular. This means that their most active times of the day are at dawn and dusk...not midnight.

You've got it all wrong! He's practicing his evil chinnie mind powers. Pretty soon you'll hear "Give Sebastian a treat. Give Sebastian a treat." repeating over and over in your head. ;)

Yes furballl does it to me too. And often it just gets so hard to resist not giving him a treat. But It's supposed to be given sparingly. Don't fall for it. Haha

My boys will do that in the morning while I'm getting ready for work! I would get that feeling of someone is watching me... I turn around and they were just standing and staring. I now get ready in the bathroom lol :)

As Tabitha said we often think chins are nocturnal, but they aren't. Mine are very, very active around 4am until 8am--this I know as I don't sleep until 8am most days which is a good thing as there is a lot of running around going on then!
