It took a few days, almost 2 weeks... to get this guy's transfer arranged.. but he made it today ..and just in time. I don't have too many details about his history, but he's terribly dehydrated, underweight a substantial bit, and he's been attacked by something.

He's a Crested Gecko ..from New Caledonia ..so I am calling him, Larrikin ;)

..and a head shot with flash in that same window. (I took one headshot without flash, but it was a little blurry.)

He drank water on the car ride home.. like he's been in the Sahara for weeks.. and he's in his new quarantine set up with a huge Pothos, drenched with fresh water ...still drinking, as I type. Hopefully, he will settle in quickly and recover perfectly.

He is really cool. I love him! So glad you rescued him.

I spent quite a while with a Crested breeder at the Mid Atlantic Reptile show last year, who mentioned an interesting thing: he's noticed that if a gecko gets too dehydrated, it seems to have trouble finding food for a while, sometimes weeks at a stretch. Good luck with this guy, and you're awesome for helping him get back to health. :)

I hope Larrikin's transition goes well! He's a lucky little guy to have found you! :congrats:

oh so cute. congrats. beware though, they are addicting. i started with one, and ended up with 5++ in a matter of months lol

I've never understood how any pet can be dehydrated (as in not being given water regularly). People, it's water! How hard is it to give your pet water?!

Anywho, rant is over. I am very happy you were able to get this little guy. His markings are very cool. He'll be rollie pollie in no time.

Thanks, everyone!

The Larrikin has been drinking water off of his plants and out of his fountain since I put him in the Exo Terra. He's currently lapping up the banana/mango flavored Crested Gecko Diet, as I type.

I am pretty confident that he will recover with some time and patience.

stormyhogs.. Larrikin is not my first... not by a long shot! I've been breeding these guys for a few years now. It just so happens, I also rescue reptiles ..so he has a forever home with absolutely no pressure to produce anything but poo.

;)

Good job rescuing. Poor little guy. I rescued a veiled chameleon on death's door 2 summers ago. It's amazing how people will leave exotic pets with their kids to care for and not do any research on what they really need to survive.

Wow! Lately I've been in love with looking at everyone's geckos! Never in my life have I EVEN considered owning repitles (can't feed something crickets or worms--no way, no how) but I LOVE living vicariously through forum friends and their geckos! He is so handsome! I'm happy to learn he has a great forever home with you!

Lan63... you can have Crested Geckos and feed them Repashy's Crested Gecko Diet, exclusively. No more excuses... you need a few geckos!

Phoenix and the girls really like watching the geckos at night, too ..and vice versa! I see quite a few of my geckos watching the shenanigans of my 3 "bouncy purses" also.
