Just ordered 3 new books online and my vaycay is next week....and the kids are in school.....and hubby's at work....just me, Kiwi, Aldo the cat and coconut bubble bath from the Body Shop....r e l a x a t i o n here I come. The books are Beatrice and Virgil, Guilt about the past, and The white bone. Should be here tomorrow or the next day. Right now I'm reading Mirror, Mirror, by Gregory Maguire. So far, I really like it.:)

I got my box of preorder stuff from Amazon yesterday! I LOVE it when all of a sudden preordered stuff comes! This box was full of goodies--all three books from "keeper" authors. I was tyring to save Shut Up and Kiss Me by Christie Craig til Memorial Day but I couldn't do it! I had to read it today and it was fabulous. So now I'm trying for Beast Behaving Badly by Shelly Laurenston--a shift book--polar bear/lion ! woot! this one should be good!

I Read Beatrice and Virgil first and I was very disappointed, not even close to the amazing writing in Life of Pi. The story was just strange, you never really got to know why the characters were who they were and why they did what they did. The ending just made me shake my head. Then I read the White Bone, this one was better, but I felt like the elephants were too humanized. still, not bad. Just started Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel. Sounds interesting so far. I'm glad you're liking all your new reads.

ruoc! we are having the same issues! My Beast Behaving Badly is falling WAY short of my expectations! I forked out $15 bucks for this book, expecting it to be as good as her other books and . . .

Nope, nowhere near as good.

I really dislike it when all of a sudden an author you've read for years decides to change their writing to fit with society or mainstream fiction. :(

I don't know where Yan Martel is trying to fit in with this new book, it's like someone else wrote it. In "Life of Pi" his writing was incredible, in this book, I can't explain it. There's just no sense to this story. Aghh.
