Hi everyone! My name is Krissy and I am a 21 year old college student living in Iowa...and a new chin mommy!

My boyfriend and I have been silently lurking this website for quite awhile now, so, I finally thought that it was time to introduce myself.

After a long time of debating and researching, we got our first chinchilla three months ago...we've named him Cosmo. He's everything we expected and more...he's our little baby.

While I'm here, I have a question for any of you who might answer...

>We started him on food recommended by Petco (my only regret about his buying experience >_<), but have since changed to Mazuri...which Cosmo seems to love. However, we noticed now that is poo is a bit darker, do you think this is normal?

I love looking at all the chins and hedgies here, all of yours are so cute!

Welcome Krissy. :)

Mazuri is fairly high in protein, which could be why his poo is darker. Also, many people have had issues with diarrhea with Mazuri (I think because of the high protein), so keep an eye for that. Diarrhea in chins means squishy poos that stick to feet, etc. Not liquid. He could also have darker poo simply because you got him off of a food that wasn't great quality and onto a better one.

Welcome to CnH! :))

When I've switched to Mazuri the chin's poop has gotten darker and larger. If it's just getting darker or larger he should be fine. As Peggy said, some chins do have issues with Mazuri, but the times I've used it everyone has been fine on it. I've feed 4 of my chins Mazuri and have had no issues.

Welcome, Krissy! This is a great forum with a lot of helpful information. I hope you get around to posting a pic of Cosmo soon, we love seeing pics too! :))

There's Cosmo, being help by Mom so I could take the picture.

Welcome Krissy! Congrats on Cosmo who is quite adorable! I'm glad you got to know a bit about chins before getting one, and Cosmo is probably quite content to be in your home now. I'm sure you're spoiling him rotten, but watch out...many people get chinnitis and have the strong urge to keep getting more and more chins...beware! :)
