New Exotic Law

Has anybody heard if this new exotic law will affect chinchilla breeders? I know before it was said they were considered domesticated livestock and you didn't need a permit or liscensing unless you sold to pet shops or wholesalers.

I haven't heard of any new laws other than what's going on in Ohio. I really don't think chinchillas will fall under these categories.

Where did you read this? Domestic farm animals are exempt.

now someone else just told me you don't need a license to buy and sell small exotics, but you do to breed? This was someone that breeds lizards.

It mentioned chinchillas so they are not included in your state. However in NJ you have to have a permit. State laws over ride federal laws - it is called 'home rule' unless the federal govt makes a BIG stink about it which they won't do for what they would call a 'little problem' So in NJ we are stuck with NJ rules - chinchillas are considered exotics and you have to have a permit to sell and own
