New chinchilla owner

Hey everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. I bought my first chinchilla a month ago, Ashum. I love the little guy! I have to say this site is great. Tons of usefull info! I am just wondering, I have bought Ashum many toys, he has lots of energy but never uses his running wheel or flying saucer. Is it normal for a chinchilla to never run? Thanks everyone!

Some chins love their wheels, others hardly use them. Just different personalities.

Are you sure Ashum knows how to use his wheel?

I've tried to show him but he just how's no interest. I was just curious if that was "normal" for some. Thanks for the post!

Welcome Nickle! As Peggy said, some chins really love a wheel, some do not.

Some chins also take a while to get 'the hang' of it. I have heard some have taken months to finally understand what the wheel does. Just leave it in the cage and probably he will understand in the future.

You mentioned a wheel & a saucer. Most people don't use both at the same time. Are you talking about the metal wheel and saucer or plastic ones? The plastic ones aren't very sturdy and I've seen quite a few chins not use them.

How old is your chin? Mine didn't really figure out and start using her flying saucer until she was around six months old. Even now when she runs it's more of a trot. We can barely hear her when she's on it.
