Hi I've had my three chins for about 8 myhs now and they
Are doing well except they only seem to really like one type of chinchilla food
I answered an add for another chin she told me over phone the chin had a few matts
I went to see her she has matts down most of her back I asked her if
She gave her a dust bath she said she did well she didn't know if it was f or m
She is female, I took this lovely cuddly girl but need help to figure out
Why she is so matted, do I just brush her coat or should I clip the matts out
I hve been trained certified vet assist but that was before chinchillas
Any advice would be helpful I would like to see this little sweethart with
A healthy shiny soft fur again. Thank you

Your girl sound a lot like my Kali. Just recently I have started to work at her matts if you rub at the base of the mats you can sometimes loosen them up and pull them out gently. It helps to have a very patient chinchilla!

That is what I have gotten out so far and she still has more

Give her plenty of dust baths and you can gently tug out the mats. She may bark at you when you do it because it is annoying but you will not be hurting her. It may take doing it several times to get all the mats out.
