Hello All,
Sorry it took a few days to introduce myself. I just picked my little guy up on Friday. Spent a week and a half getting all the supplies together for him and referenced numerous resources (these forums included) for what else to mentally prep for. Sly is heading on 4 months old and his personality is coming through. From the moment I left with him, he's been absolutely delightful.
After letting him get settled in the cage and learning the layout, he was ready to play within an hour. I've been able to hold him repeatedly and he even has a little system for letting me know when he wants to get out and sit on my shoulder. I'm getting the next round of toys, apple sticks and fleece on Tuesday.
I have to say, everyone was right about the Carefresh (I bought it before learning the wonders of fleece)--it gets everywhere and he seems like he might be contemplating about eating it. While I'm not giving treats before the 6 month mark, I did use the " rubbing a raisin on the water bottle" trick to help him figure it out--worked like a charm.
As for me, I'm a database specialist and work 1.5 hours from home. His sleep regiment is perfect for my lifestyle and it's nice sitting up with him after a long day of work. It's going to be nice to learn as much as I can about chinchillas. I've previously had dogs, hermit crabs, tadpoles, fish and guinea pigs. However, I think chinchillas have just won me over for life. I attached a quick photo of Sly. You will notice he's already redecorating. lol. :dance3:
