I am new to chinchilla breeding... I've done enough dog breeding but never had chinchilla babies before and when I got home tonight I noticed that my two chins were fighting way too much and when I lifted the cave up I saw that there was a baby in there .... at this point I don't know what to do so if anyone out there has any great websites or books that I can look into so that I can learn more I would really appreciate it

Be sure to separate the father from the kit and its mum so that the mum can recuperate. Weigh the kit and keep track of its weight to see if it's increasing for the next few weeks. If it isn't, it might not be feeding on the mum and you'll have to hand feed it.

One, put the father in another cage or he will continue to try and mate with her causing them to fight. They will actually fight to the death. Two, Check to make sure the wire spacing on the cage is no bigger than 1 inch by 1/2 inch. If the spacing is bigger, you will need to either get a cage with appropriate spacing or cover the current one with hardware cloth. Three, weigh the baby daily. If the baby does not gain weight or looses weight after 3 days, you will need to feed it goats milk several times a day. If the baby is gaining a couple of grams a day, then the mother's milk has come in and they kit will do fine as long as nothing stops it from nursing. Four, read all of the threads about caring for kits and their mothers on this forum. You should also read anything on here that has to do with breeding, since is apparent that you have not done so, yet.

baby chin

both mommy n kit are doing great ... I have read a lot of websites and the forums in here but I panicked when I saw blood .... but I do appreciate all the advice I can get ... currently I have baby n kit in an old bird cage that I cleaned and cleaned to make sure it was safe and they seem to be doing really good ... baby is active and trying to hop around which is the cutest thing in the world... not only do I have this baby I also have a 2 week old puppy and due to have baby bunnies (killing husband for bringing home pregnant bunnies) but I love animals and I never turn away an unwanted animal... these 2 chinchillas that I got was from a former friend and I knew a little about their history but I do know mommy has had babies before and she was always great with them, so im hoping that she will do great with this one, im just sad to say that she did have 2 babies but it seems one did not make it by the time I got home last night... but again I do appreciate any and all advice and help that I can get..
