I just got my girl a huge five level cage a bunch of new fleece items . Is it normal for her to be avoiding the upper levels and the fleece, she pretty much stays on the first two levels .
Was she in a small cage before? I know someone who just moved their chins from a small cage to a much larger one and her chin was doing the same thing. It's probably a comfort level thing. I'm sure once she realizes that it's the pent house, she will change her mind. =)
I have one chin who's pretty much only been in a large cage since I got her, and after I placed locks on the bottom door just never bothers with the lower levels of the cage. My newest one will run all over her cage, but likes to drag her stuffed toys down to the lower levels and mostly sleeps down there. I've never been able to put reason on why they do what they do.
My little guy who passed did not like the top level of the cage very much. I think it had something to do with how open it was. I think it made him feel like prey. He felt safer on the bottom level where there was a pan to block the light and make him feel hidden. He loved the top ledge on the bottom level but would hardly ever spend any time on the top ledge of the top level. The only thing he usually went to the top for was to hide in his fleece tube.
mine avoids the lower parts of his cage now. which really sucks because now he pees and poos all over his wood shelves and wont go down to the bedding to pee and poo. darn chin!
