If you are willing to spend a little more money, you could get the FN 142 which is a lot sturdier and bigger. You could check craigslist too as lots of people have gotten great deals on there (including me) you could probably find a used one for less than $150 :))

that cage looks flimsy to me. the plastic pan would need to be covered in fleece. there isn't much room to attach a wheel. the doors are small and will make cage cleaning difficult. the plastic guards will get chewed on. the casters look weak and could break easily. the bottom floor grate is most likely the wrong sized spacing for chinny toes. and the footprint (amount of floor space it takes up) isn't very big at all.

spend the extra money and get a Ferret Nation. or check your local craigslist for a better used cage.

I don't have a ferret nation, but I bought mine for $115. It's sturdy, but I had to take the wire shelves out and replace them with wood and line the bottom with fleece. I'd say after the shelves and fleece, it probably cost about $200 for everything.

So I think a ferret nation would be cheaper than buying tons of wood shelves. You'd only need to get a few of them. Here's what my cage looked like when I got it and after I fixed it up.

what i did was buy a second hand 'cat cage'. it's the Precision Kitty Condo model. i tossed the plastic base that came with it and built my own wood base out of kiln dried pine. added a buttload of kiln dried pine shelves too.

here's Rhino's 'not so mini' kingdom! its 4 feet tall, and 2x3 feet on the bottom. has two doors, one on the top half and one on the bottom half, and the doors are big enough for my nearly 7 year old daughter to climb through. i can fit my whole upper body/arms through one of the doors as well, which makes getting to the back corners of shelves to clean so easy!

Unless you can get a deal on Craigslist for a ferret nation, I would just get a quality cage townhome or mansion. That way you get wooden ledges and a metal bottom, so you don't have to replace anything. Ferret nations cost more in the long run, if you take into account replacing the shelves and pans.

You could always get the FN 141 and if you decide to get another chin later, you can buy the add-on to make it a two level :)

so craigslist gave me an awesome one it had everything including a new bath house and everything I was soo excited the problem was it was in Pennsylvania and Im in California :banghead:
