Hi, I'm new to Chins n Hedgies, but old from when there used to be a site called Chins n Quills.

I have one hetero beige chinchilla, aged 11. She lives in a big cage with wood shelves, toys, and a wheel. I'm currently searching for a mate for her that is near to her age. Her male black velvet chin died (also aged 11) about 2 weeks ago.

I spoil my chins, but don't give them more than one small treat (fruit & nut) a day. I guess that plural statement is force of habit. I spoil my chin taking her out at night in a large exercise pen in the kitchen with wood house, dust bath and toys. She's very animated when she comes out of her cage.

Missing her mate. He was the smartest, best pet I've ever had. Still in shock that he died.

Hi and welcome! We're happy to have you here!!!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your male :( That has to be hard for both you and her mate.

Most members here would advise no fruit, and I believe nuts are a no no too. Plain shreddies, cheerios, rosehips, and wood chews are ideal to give as treats.

I hope you can find another mate for your female. Good luck!

Welcome! Losing a chin is never easy. I hope you and your chinnie girl find some peace.

*hugs* so sorry for the loss.

And no, nuts are not ok. They can't properly digest them.

Thanks all

I never read that anywhere about nuts. What about sunflower seeds?

Obviously I don't want to do anything to hurt my chinnie. I only give her one small raisin per night. But I'll cut out the nuts.

I appreciate all the welcomes and condolences.

Thanks again,

Hello and Welcome!

I'd recommend searching for a same-sex partner for your girl. Was her male cagemate fixed? If not, you'll want to wait on trying to pair her up until after 111 days past his death. Just in case she would be pregnant.

Hi everyone.

Yeah, my 2 chinnies never had any kits together, so either she's sterile or he was. I wouldn't worry about old Willow having any. Whenever he tried to mount her, she'd spray him with pee after a couple of warnings. Poor little piggie (my nickname for him). I'm totally fine with getting her a female companion. Whoever she'll get along with is all that matters to me.

 Hello & welcome to the forum.

I am sorry for your loss. :(

Ty Claire.

It's tough and no one will ever replace him, but I want Willow to be happy. Between all the breeders I've started to have a dialogue with, we should find her a good one.
