I am not sure who to contact or what can be done but I am concerned that the Chinchillas at a fish store in Phoenix, AZ are not in good shape. If anyone here has the ability to go check on them and do something to help these poor Chinchillas, I'd be grateful!

This is an email that I have sent to two people in the Tucson area.

"I am not certain if you are the right person to contact, I could not find a rescue in Phoenix. I recently visited a fish store in Phoenix and was appalled to find several Chinchillas in less than desirable living conditions. Most had no water or food in their cages although there was evidence that they had been fed something at some time. The cages were filthy and the animals looked neglected, dirty, and sad. I do not own Chinchillas but live with many other pets and feel that I am capable of discerning between properly and improperly cared for critters. I was appalled by the conditions these animals were living in. I hope that you or someone you know will go check out the situation and take appropriate measures." Perhaps I have misjudged the situation given that I do not have Chinchillas as pets but somehow I don't think so.

If anyone local to the Phoenix area can help the OP out, please contact her for the location of the chins.

I have been contacted by someone that promises to go check on these Chinchillas and hopefully save them from their miserable surroundings.

Just an idea but there is the phoenix aspca and i'm sure they could go and investigate. Animal cruelty is animal cruelty. If their not caring for the chins who's to say they are caring for any of the animals correctly. I've seen the aspca close pet stores down completely for lack of care. Hopefully someone can go help at any rate

I just love that show on TV about the Phoenic aspca, I'm sure they could help you out.

That's great, Kawgirl--please let us know how it works out.

I have not heard anything yet but will keep you posted. I do not want to overreact in a situation like this but I felt pretty strongly that those little guys were not getting proper care.
