So, I was curious, what do you do about your chins during natural disaster in your state/country?

-Blizzard
-Hurricane
-Earthquake
-Tornado
-Fire
-Dust storm
-Anything else

The only thing we have here is rain so there is no worry really :) makes me glad i live in the UK though.

I live in the NW and so far we haven't had any real emergencies for as long as I can remember. I suppose the one threat that could happen anywhere is fire, and I don't really want to imagine what I would do in that case since I have too many animals to try and move in a short period of time. But I do think it is important to have an emergency plan ready, just in case...I just think it is improbable for some people here to be able to have a plan that will work for all of the animals they have, in case of a true emergency.

*nod* the news about japan and alabama/georgia/tennesee/virgina got me thinking ^_^

I've got carriers next to the cages for all of my chins as well as an emergency kit that has meds, feed, hay and bottled water. For tornados, the chins are already in the basement. For other natural disasters, we just hope that we will have enough time to get them in the carriers and run out of the house if need be.

I keep the carrier right next to their cages. I keep a clean liner waiting in each hole so I'm ready to go.

This week alone I've had the tornado sirens go off twice. I throw them in their carrier and we head down to the lowest level of my apartment building. If it was serious, and I had to get in the 'duck and cover position,' I would probably bend my body over the carrier to protect them as much as possible.

My chins are in the basement, but I also have plenty of carriers. Don't know if I'd be able to get them out fast enough during a fire though.

Tornados :(

If we were in a tornado warning, I think I'd bung Hugo into Barnaby's cage and roll them into the first floor bathroom so we could all hide together. I only have one carrier. Maybe I should get another for emergencies! :(

Chins are moved downstairs to the basement of the complex along with Baxter the cat and ourselves of course during tornado watch. Not much to worry about in a blizzard, even if the power goes out it most likely won't get cold enough in the house to cause chins harm

When we get hurricane warnings, I make sure the carriers are close to chins. Plus an old plastic coated tablecloth to put over their carriers for rain, bugs, smoke, etc...
I need to do an emergency kit like sandi tho!
But like Erin, I'm not sure I would be able to grab them all. Especially the pesky ones that don't just come out!
I'm gonna pick up some fleece to make for their carriers & drop s wood stick in there.

My plan is to grab the chinnies and put them in the carrier, and then my fiance, our 100lb dog, the chins, and me will squeeze into the only interior room in our townhome- the tiny closet sized downstairs bathroom.

I have a carrier next to my chins cages. The other day while I was at school we had a tornado warning and we all had to go downstairs and huddle up in the safest rooms. I wasn't scared, but I just about had a panic attack because no one was home with the chinchillas and I was afraid something would happen to them. Luckily, our neighborhood was fine. Everybody said it was just a little wind and the school was being overreacting but I was still scared for my babies

Chloe's carrier is next to her cage along with a big rubbermaid box with her emergency kit, a box of chewies, food, syringe feed mix and an extra water bottle.

We don't really have much to worry about in MA. A fire would be the most probable. I know where my fire escape and extinguisher are.

Now, the cat on the other hand...in a natural disaster, unless you get fair warning (which hopefully you do), I have no idea how I would find my cat and stuff her into the carrier quickly enough to leave. That always freaks me out.

I live in Alaska and we get alot of earthquakes. I really don't know what I would do if we get a big one. They are unpredictable and only last a minute or two...
In the past, I would just run outside with my dog.
