Today I took my poodle, Trixie, to a local pet expo. She is very attached to me and is a shy dog. If people try to pet her she hides behind me. I have to pick her up so they can pet her.
She normally barks at people she does not know and checks them out.
Today a young developmentally disabled young woman asked to pet her. I picked her up and let her pet her. Trixie started licking her face. The girl thought it was cute and kept trying to get my dog to lick her face.
Trixie is a sweet dog and would never bite.
This situation shocked me. Trixie had NEVER licked anyone outside of my parents, me, or little brother. She even barks and is standoffish towards my nieces and nephews.
I wonder if she could tell the girl was different? The girl's mother said my dog knew her daughter was special.
I'm just a little shocked, in a happy way, that Trixie acted that way. It was a very sweet moment.
