We just took in a yellow-naped Amazon 2 days ago. The previous owners have had him for 25 years since the guy was a teenager but with kids and such he wasnt able to give him the attention so he hadnt been out of his cage is years.

Well he(called he but I am leaning towards girl) talks up a storm. Sings "Let me call you sweetheart", meows, and greats everyone. He has had lots of play time outside the cage but is still being moved with a stick. He seems to prefer guys, lets us scratch him and will take treats from us. I am hoping we will get him to be able to step up again and such. He is a hoot though, we had people over last night and he told them hello. When they responded he asked what was up and what they were doing.

I also took in a eclectus a couple months ago. She is a behavior plucker so has a red head and a couple partial tail feathers. She had been very tame but only to certain people. She went through a not nice phase that they will and now I can handle her and hug her but no one else. I will have to get some pics of her, she is starting to finally get purple feathers but we will see how long they last, lol.

I am currently helping rehome a few birds and baby-sitting a few others so am over run now, lol.

He's very cool! I love the things he says LOL. Is his name Bert? I think that is a great name for a bird LOL.

What a beautiful bird. What is his lifespan? I feel bad for the poor guy being that he wasn't let out of his cage for so long...I have a tiel that is only in her cage to sleep, but then again I have several keets that aren't tame and aren't let out of their cages because I have 3 cats who would make them lunch if they could. The tiel rides on my shoulder constantly, and we were looking at a larger bird but the stories of how damaging they can be and the threat of losing a finger made us start with a cockatiel! But we would like to get something bigger at some point as our knowledge grows.

Congrats in such a beautiful bird. He sounds like quite the clown!

Yes his name is Bert and he uses it a lot. Amazons are are 50-75 years for a life-span. They got him as a baby when the guy was a teenager so he is right around 25 now.

I am not trying to laugh at the keets being lunch cause I had that today, almost. One of our African greys let her self out of her cage. Okay she can crawl around the top but she had other plans. She went over to the keets cage(we are housing them for a friend for a couple weeks till she can get them) and pulled of their water dish and threw at them. When they didnt care much about that, she opened their cage and joined them, I have NO doubt her intentions were NOT good cause she only likes her other African grey friend-hates all other birds.

I know some birds are cage birds, I have some like that but this guy had been a pet only for 20+ years so was a huge change for him and he loves being out now. Mutters when he goes back and now willingly steps on the stick where before he was pretty hesitant.

Hey Kari I didn't know you and Dennis had birds! This he/she is really striking. I'm so happy he found a place with you.

He "mutters"... that is so sweet!

I totally want to get an African Grey but I'm waiting until I'm out of school and waiting until we both have good jobs.

LOL, yeah-just a few. It is a joke with staffing where I work they may have the wrong place if they dont hear birds. We also raise many birds as well.

Current birds: sun conures, green-cheek conures, cherry-head conures, black cap conures, LOTS of tiels, African greys, eclectus, yellow-naped amazon, alexandrines, indian ringnecks, black headed caiques, and parrotlets. I think that covers them, lol

Do you see yourself getting anymore birds in the future? You have quite the collection already! I can just imagine the noise level at your house!! :)

I love Amazon's-- they are my #1 favorite parrot! He's beautiful and sounds like a ton of fun :)

I think it's great whenever someone takes in an older bird. That's how we got some of our guys here too. We don't have any Zons but they do amaze me when I hear them singing and carrying on a conversation. LOL
