Hello everyone,

I just became a new mom of two cute boys. They came from the best breeder in the Netherlands and she coupled them for me as well. She did this at 6 am and I picked them up around 2pm. We then had a 2 hour drive to get back to my house and snuggled against each other the whole ride. They are housed in the upper story of my ferret nation 142 which I babyproofed with wire. They seem to love the cage, sitting in the front watching me and seeking attention a lot! Especially my standard male is already walking over my hand and nibbling on me when I'm cleaning out the poops.
It's been 3 days now so it surprised me how fast they are seeking for attention!

But on the second day it started.. they started humping each other. Especially my Standard male humping my Ebony-hetero male. Sometimes the other way around, I saw the Standard male try to bite his neck a few times but no serious fighting or whatever. They even make normal happy sounds when they continue jumping around. It's only when they are most active, in the daytime when they sometimes wake up they just smell each others faces and walk by or sit close by.

I know it's an act of dominance but when does it go to far.. and is it a sign that there is a bigger chance they will end of up fighting or will this settle over time?

Sorry for the long story but here in the netherlands we got no forums on chins what so ever. So I thought I would seek for advice over here!

Usually they will figure it out after a week or so but there may still be occasional humping to reinforce dominance as long as they are together. Just keep a very close eye on them for signs of excess chasing or other signs of aggression. A good early indicator to separate is when you start seeing fur slips around the cage.

Congrats on your new chins!

Ah okey, i'll keep an eye out! They seem to be doing just fine at the moment, haven't really seen them chasing each other either. Really falling in love with both of my fella's! Can't stop watching them :D

My boys are over a year old and when they get really excited they give each other a little hump. No signs of aggression, just...lovin', playing, and a bit of dominance. Keep in mind though that even bonded chins can decide one day that they no longer want to be friends anymore

I read about this before I got them, it's the reason I bought a ferret nation cage so I could split them up whenever they would start to go haywire on each other. Yesterday I heared a bark though, just one.. when I came over my standard chased him a lil or well looked like that but they both where running and he popcorned after the chase. My ebony appeared to be normal after.. it looks like there are a few pieces of tiny fur sticking out, he has a few of those pieces on the first day as well. Probably from his brothers, don't know if I imagine there to be more little pieces or that the other one really is trying to bite out his fur. When the grey one humps my ebony male he does make the movement like he is biting, most of the times the ebony doesn't really seem to care though.. just hops on further..

And would this behaviour make a good idea to make the second lvl baby proof as well, it's a lot of work but if you guys suggest I babyproof it with hardware cloth cause this could get out of hand I will! Just don't want one of my babies to get hurt!

I have 2 boys that hump each other, a lot. Not for dominance or aggressively, just to relieve a little sexual tension. They do it back and forth and get extra dust baths to get the sticky residue out of their fur.
