My moms good friend found a kitten in her yard. She was going to take him to the humane society, but my mom went and picked him up instead. Our humane society is a kill shelter, he would have been put down. He was covered in fleas, kept falling to one side, and had maggots under his skin. He also had a possible broken leg.

We took him to our vet, but ended up signing him over. We could not afford to treat him medically, due to our own pets. My vet didn't charge us though. They will take really good care of him. I'm hoping he makes it. The vet techs loved him, so if he does make it, he will find a good home.

I'm going to ask them Thursday :)

Im really happy my vet took him in. They normally won't take in animals due to their huge client volume. The vet tech said she would have to make a choice to euthanize or not depending on how he did today. He tested negative for feline leukemia.

My mom and I didn't have the heart to not give him a chance. My vet knows I'm really soft hearted. If my family had the money we would have kept him. But we also have other cats, so they have to come first.

It's heartbreaking to see an animal in such horrible condition. I've never seen an animal as bad off as this kitten was. They removed the larvae from under his skin at the vet. I couldn't stomach watching. They also said he could have more deeper in the skin.

He'll start to feel better within 24 hours of getting medicine I'm sure. He must have a strong will to have made it this long, but if he doesn't make it at least he knows he is loved, warm and fed

Amen! Sometimes it's not saving the animal's life that is the best thing for it.Sometimes the kindest gift is the gift of letting them know love, gentleness, kindness and relief from pain and suffering. I picked up a feral kitten in a local shop parking lot.Knew it wasn't good when it didn't try to run(I always keep leather gloves and an old towel in my truck)!Drove him over an hour to an old vet that I trusted(of course since retired).Talked to little one all the way telling it how much I cared for it/loved it.Vet took it back to check it over and of course came out with the bad news I already pretty much knew-lower back broken, and most humane was to put him down.I offered to pay expenses and vet refused.I told him I would take him home for burial but Dr asked me if he could do it.He knew why I had come all the way with this little one wrapped lovingly in a towel and he told me that he would like to give the little fellow a meal to eat before relieving his pain so that he could do his part in showing some compassion too since kitty wasn't actually in pain.Lord I wish I could find another vet with his heart in the world these days.:cry3:

He was purring and cuddling up in the vet tech's arms. And trying to rub against her. I'm crossing my fingers the little one makes it.

We actually came home to find the neighborhood stray sitting at our door. He comes around every once in a while to eat. At least I think he is a stray, we have been seeing him for years.

We treated him with flea meds not long ago because he had a ton of scabs on his head. Can't really afford to do much more than that though.

Stray cats break my heart. All five of my family's cats were rescues. I just want to keep them all.

fyi, we use a little syringe without the needle of course and inject some mineral oil into the ears and use Q-tips to remove ear mites. I suppose a lot of strays have those. If the oil gets into their fur comb some chin dust into it to remove it as best as possible

I called the vet today to check on the little guy. They said he was running a fever, had an ear infection, and worvels. But they did say he was doing a bit better today :)

I think when people save animals that would not get help its very nice to do its good kitten was found and received care I am sure the kitten is a LOT more comfortable now that >.< was treated its sad sometimes people just walk away..keep them outside or dont keep tabs on there pets and let conditions get that bad sending good vibes to kitty!!

Went to pick something up at the vet today. They said the kitten was doing really well. Rubbing up against the bars and everything :)

He is currently in rabies quarantine though.

I had asked to see him, and they were going to let me, but the tech didn't know he was in quarantine. I'm overjoyed that he is doing so well! He looked so bad when he went in. So happy my vet gave him a chance! I know some vets won't do that. One of the techs runs a kitten rescue, so I think she had a soft spot for him :) They all talk about how cute he is. I think one of them will end up adopting him.
