I LOVE babies and especially love Indian and Chinese little babies. They are the cutest thing you could ever imagine...I tried to capture this a little bit too....Shes poor, but very happy with her shawl!

She's also my first person to draw....Even though it stillll looks a bit character, thats my kind of portrait, really...

I think pupils in the eye would be more realistic - finished looking. But I'm an eye guy!!
Just looks too blank, I guess!

If you're looking for comments, I think the eyes need to be changed a little bit. Not sure what it is about them... but if you cover the eyes it makes the drawing look more realistic. Maybe make them a bit smaller or give the pupils more character? Idk, it's still really good.... just thought I'd point out what I noticed!

I have decided not to add to the eyes.......Simply because, she has BLACK eyes. What you see is like the reflection of light. With black eyes it is very, very, very difficult to see the pupils. Especially in such light. If I were to add pupils I also think it would also look like a lighter skinned baby with light coloured eyes which I didn't want.

Let me show you a picture of black eyes, you can also see the shadows on the and pupils...well you can't really see them.

Also....Mum thinks she looks happy and is smiling. I can see her smiling but then other times I look and it looks like she is a bit sad and pouting...What do YOU see?

I have made the eyes a tiny bit darker but no pupils, lol. I don't wish for my stuff to look really realistic, more my own style...

Mae, I think you did a beautiful job. She looks like she is smiling to me because of that dimple on the right (her left) that is showing. I love the eyes and the shawl is fabulous!

I too think the eyes need something. I agree that with dark eyes you don't see the pupil but the sparkle is still there and the white of the sparkle is very pronounced compared to the dark of the eye. The eyes kind of reminded me of a black eyed animal with cataracts. Wonderful drawing. You have great talent.

Hmm, the cataracts thing I agree it looks a bit like it when the pic is on screen....

Although, maybe I don't see what you guys are seeing because I have the original where there is a lot more shading involved? Also agree that on the pictures I posted the reflections ARE a lot more pronounced and bright compared to the black of the eye. Let me show you this one...I really don't want to touch the eyes too much and do more harm than good.

I don't even really want to make the reflections more prnounced...just wouldn't 'fit' or something. Don't feel as if I am really declining your thoughts, Im definitely not and taking everything into consideration...I hope you also see where I am coming from, lol.

Mae, it's YOUR artwork, and make it how YOU like. You are the artist and you make the picture, so if you like it, leave it. It's all about your originality..if you start conforming to others, it won't be YOURS anymore!
