How awesome - he'll be home for the holidays!

Congratulations to you both. Make the very best of it.

And please, tell him thank you. :)

omg this made me so happy!!!! congrats!

its such good news that he'll be home for the holidays and you can cherish every single second of it!

my bf is in the national guard right now and while he'll be going back to school in january, i know the day will come where he's out of school and i may have to face this. i guess thats why i get so excited when i hear of soldiers coming home to their families. its just the best!

congrats again and give him many many thanks!

That is great news! How happy and excited you must be, please tell him how thankful we are for serving our country.
:thanks:

Seeing this news made me so happy! I'm glad you'll be together for the holidays! Please post some pics if you can! We'd love to see a smile on your face and his! You can even post the smooching pics if you want!

Yeah right Laurie - we won't see her back on here till sometime next year! She's definitely got "other things" on her mind right about now, 'eh?!

Enjoy the time you have with him - and somehow, find time to squeeze in that I thank him for what he does. So happy that he's home.

:dance3: Now this made my morning!!! Please tell your husband that the people of Virginia thank him for his service to our country and it's people. I'm so very happy for you. Feel like the sparkle fairy dusted me after reading your post.

I don't feel so sad now. Our little family was suppose to drive from Richmond Virginia to western Illinois today. But the bad weather out that way will not allow us to drive out there for Christmas. We "may" be able to leave this Sat or Sun and make it out there for just a few days.

Thank you for sharing your post. Just the kind of story to humble me and remind me that a missed Christmas with family is not just my story alone. Instead is it thousands of men and women not in the states doing their military job feeling the same way.

Hugs, Alex

By the way........ I just called my parents and read your story and read them my response. My dad ( who was so sad yesterday when I said we would not make it) started to chuckle and said how true that was. And told me that was a really good reply.
I'm starting to well up with tears but smiling at the same time.

LMAO...I just showed him all the replies and he laughed at this one with me...Alex, I am sad you won't be able to see your family because of the weather - Hopefully you can get some reprive and get a few days in. I would love to have some snow, so feel free to mail me some:neener:

thank you all for the "thank yous" he pretends like they embarass him, cause he just thinks he's doing a job, but I know he likes them ;) We get stopped a lot when he's in uniform and he hears everything from Thank you to WWII stories.

He left this August for Iraq, (this is his third tour and our second one together) and after he leaves on the 2nd of Jan he won't be home again until next August- then he's home for good and out of the army. He got lucky getting Christmas leave as most don't. So I am definately making the most of it - even though it's just my luck I would be sick right now! ugh.

Oh and he likes the house he bought - this is the first time he's seen it!

Just wanted to add my Merry Christmas to you both! I am so happy that you have the holidays to spend together and I hope that the time left that your husband needs to serve goes quickly. We also thank both of you for the sacrifices you make in order to serve your country and wish you the best Christmas in your new home!

Just a note. I won't be going home at all due to the weather. But will see the family during my daughters school spring break.

Show your husband this note.

My little family and our friend John made it to Washington DC to march on Capital Hill this year. After the events, we started on our way to the Smithsonian metro, I saw a man in a wheel chair. The men were walking in front of me and it was my daughter and I behind them. I saw that the man in the wheel chair had some sort of military baseball cap on. I stopped and asked him if he served in the war. He was really old! Said he fought in WW2. I have never said thank you in person to any soldier. Always felt embarassed as to what to say.

So I looked him in the eye and told him thank you for serving our country and taking care of me. I put out my hand to shake and he lifted both hands and took mine. He placed one on the bottom and one on the top and looked me in the eye with his clouded eyes and said, "your welcome." We both started to well up with tears and then I went on my way. I believe it made his "life."

I didn't see this thread earlier. I wish I had, to relay my thanks to your husband also.

Volunteerchin22--I'm sorry, I don't know your name. :) But I'd like to give my thanks to you, also. It is not just your husband sacrificing for our country. You are, too, in the time you miss out on having him with you, with your children if you have any. Just missing out on having him there to rub your feet after a long day, or to cuddle with at night. Thank you for YOUR sacrifice, also.
