Well today i saw him sleep for the first time (His sleeping schedule almost perfectly mimics mine) and his eyes didnt seem like he ever fully closed.
Is this bad? Is he unsure of his environment? (I did just move his cage so he could be near where i usually am)

Yes it is normal. Sometimes my girls "sleep" with their eyes completely open. I have had them for over 4 years ;)).

Oh ok good :)
I was worried because ive never seen him sleep and i was like whys he acting all wierd maybe hes hurt oh no...
But than he just got out of his house and played
Thanks for letting me know its normal

Yes...I too have had my chinchilla for about 4 yrs and dont think I have ever caught him with his eyes fully closed! What interesting creatures, eh? Haha

I didn't know that chins sleep with their eyes open.
That explains a lot about my white, Winnie. Most mornings, he's on his hammock. When I approach him, he gets startled as if he didn't see me come by. I guess he was sleeping (with his eyes open) & that's why he wasn't alert.

Yea
On a sleeping related note
Does anyone have a sleeping buddy for there chin?
I was thinking getting his little guy one but i dont know if hed use it

I think that young, single chins can benefit from having a snuggle/cuddle buddy.

Mr. Whiskers had a little lamb that was just about the size of another chinchilla. He snuggled on/with it until he and Baby became cagemates. Then, they had each other.

Some older, more mature chinnies use their cuddle buddy for "other" things -- kind of like a "friend with benefits"!!! ;)

Pet stores don't sell them. There are members here who do. You can also go to walmart, babies r us, etc. and look through the newborn toys. You need something made from fleece without plastic eyes/nose. Also, if you go this route you need to keep an eye on the toy. They contain fluff on the inside (the ones made here have fleece on the inside so you dont have to worry so much) that can cause an impaction if eaten.
