my chinchilla gnaws on her cage bars..

not gnawing as in biting (but she does like to bite them as well), but she actually holds onto the bar with her mouth and just sits there, like she's in a trance. If I stand in front of her cage, it takes her a few seconds to respond (unless she knows I have food for her haha). She usually sits there for around 5-10 minutes before snapping out of it and doing something else. Sometimes she even takes a small nap.

she looks cute while doing it, but I've always wondered if there was something wrong with her health... My other chinchilla doesn't exhibit the same behavior, but then again, my other chinchilla seems more active. I'm ordering some more toys for her/ upgrading her cage in case it's just because she's bored (which is what i think is why she does this).

Carl chews on his bars when he wants out/to play. And its ALWAYS when im trying to sleep. Even though i let him out almost every day for a half hour x_x. Hes never done that though. Maybe shes having problems with her teeth/Gums. The cage bars are cool, maybe her gums are irritating her? or her teeth?

My one chin, Pandora does that all the time:

She has tons of chew toys, and lava but likes to hold a bar in her mouth. Weirdo chin!

yup, chins are crazy litter critters. Some of mine do it also
