I have my chin for a month now and i realize that he never make any kind of noise. I never let him go hungry so I don't know about that yet. But like when he's playing or get scared of something he still never make any noise. Is this a good sign? or bad? or normal? I also notice that he would hear it if you bang on something or knock on something. But he wouldn't hv any response to human voice unless its a shout. Is this also normal?

Thanks!

Some chins are vocal while others aren't. As long as he is pooping, peeing, eating and drinking he is fine. :)

You're kinda lucky, mine makes his alarm sound at all the worst moments. He's trying to control his mommy. :p

I had chins quite a few years ago, they were so quiet, only doing the occasional "bark"..these new ones NEVER stop (not that I am complaining) but they make a large variety of sounds, at times, I swear they sound like the guinea pigs!

My chins too have varied in their vocalness. My two standard boys, Casanova and D'Artagnan are brothers, are very vocal and make noises to each other and just in general , sometimes to complain. I swear they like to hear themselves .My one older male Peepers sometimes randomly makes that alarm call and if he is REALLY grumpy he may kack. Other than that he's pretty silent. My girl Arwen made no noise, kacking or otherwise, till about the time she was ready to give birth. I got "snuffed" at first and now that the kits are here she has yelled at me a time or two. i think once the kists are weaned and all she will probably be mostly silent again. She is just a very laid back individual. Just varies from chin to chin.

Yeah! some chins are more vocal then the others. So nothing to worry about yeah?

He could also be making noises when you're not around? I agree as well that as long as he's eating, drinking and pooping normally than you probably just have a quiet chin. :))

Perhaps you would want to stop shouting at it too. Since you said he responses to shouting. Because most probably it is giving the alarmed bark. It might not be a good thing when it makes noise :)

Our 2 make a quiet squeeking sound when they're playing out of the cage...I always hope it's a good sign as they seem to be having fun!

thanks so much for every suggestion. I do believe that my chin is very healthy and bonding to me very strongly. So, of course this is a good sign :)

well, he makes noise today! It wasn't loud and he didn't keep doing it either but it was so cute! I just thought I need to let you guys know :)
