Just something Ive been wondering over time for ppl that run rescues or shelters that take in multiple chins. Generally for someone taking in a new chin they quarantine them for a month or so. How would that work if your taking in multiples over time on a constant basis? I imagine they don't have a place with separate rooms for each and every chin to quarantine them that are completely separate/safe from other chins.

I don't get in rescues often and when I do they seem to come in groups. 4 or 5 within a wk or 2 so I just quarantine the whole group. Unfortunately that is a problem when rescuing. You never know what , how many or when you will get a chin. If you can do 30 days that's great but its not always possible.

I do my best but also have foster homes and that helps a lot! Being full right now puts an end to any new chins coming in.

I have 3 rooms of chins right now. No new chin goes into the chin room directly. My fosters have quarantine space as well. It can be musical chins when new chins do come in.

Unless a chin really looks like it is sick and seems to have a problem that could be contagious I will quarantine chins in the same room. The rescue room is a lot quieter and calming than the other chin rooms so it's easier on new chinchillas. Now, if a chin is obviously sick, it will go somewhere else. I don't like putting chins in the designated human areas...but sometimes I will put chins in the front room or elsewhere out of the air space of other chins to prevent any issues.
